My Win98 Boot Disk cannot see my CD-ROM Drives?? Please Help

I just created a Win 98 Boot floppy disk and then restarted the PC. I selected 'Start Windows 98 with CD-ROM Support' option, but I cannot use my CD drive?? While booting the diskette, I get the message after it starts, 'CD-ROM Drive not found, abort operation.' The only thing I can think of is that just last month I installed a new HD, and it came with a free ATA-100 controller card. To use this, I had to re-hook all of my IDE devices to the ATA100 card, instead of my Motherboard. The only thing I can think of is that the boot floppy is looking for the CD-ROM drive attached to the MB, and not the ATA100 card. But this is just a guess? Will I have to open up my PC and take the IDE Secondary cable off the ATA card and put it back into my Motherboards IDE 2 slot?? Will this even work?

Any ideas? Please help. Thanks

Your windows 98 bootdisk should have a generic set cd-rom drivers on it. If not I would be checking your cables and other hardware and settings. I myself have used windows 98 bootdisk 100's of times and it has always loaded the cd-rom drivers. Maybe I have just been lucky.

Good Luck!

-Boot up using the Win98/98SE Boot Disk. When you reach the Startup Menu where you can select whether to start the computer with or without CD Rom Support, press the "F5" Key. This will bring you to an A:> prompt.

-Type "REN ASPI2DOS.SYS ASPI2DOS.OLD" (without quotations) and then press the "Enter" key.

-Type "REN ASPI4DOS.SYS ASPI4DOS.OLD" (without quotations) and then press the "Enter" key.

-Type "REN ASPI8DOS.SYS ASPI8DOS.OLD" (without quotations) and then press the "Enter" key.

-Type "REN ASPI8U2.SYS ASPI8U2.OLD" (without quotations) and then press the "Enter" key.

-Type "REN ASPICD.SYS ASPICD.OLD" (without quotations) and then press the "Enter" key.

-Press "Ctrl-Alt-Del" to restart the computer.

The process can be reversed if you plan to use the disk to Boot SCSI devices in the future.
