My wife was just threatened by a telemarketer.

I think all telemarkters should be executed.

I understand most telemarketers are just trying to make a living, and I make an effort not to be rude. But if a person has thin skin when it comes to rejection, telemarketing is certainly not going to work out for them.

Make a living by lies, cheats, and out-right theft? Cold-calling people at home needs to be outlawed. I've written my congressman over it, except he don't give a darn b/c he's gettin' fat off the DMA's tit.

I hope this national "do not call list" works... but we'll see.

I was a telemarketer while in HS. Seriously, back then, I had NO CLUE how much we were hated. While on the job, I never got an ill-tempered response.. maybe because of the sound of my young voice. At any rate, it was a good paying gig as all I had to do was get our oil-guy in the door to inspect their burner. 3 hours a night after school and I made $125/wk in the 9th grade. Being naive, young, and innocent, I never did anything like this dude Jared did. If they had ANY kind of negative response, I'd say good-night.

So, make sure you are home before she is tomorrow, and make sure you answer all phone calls. If any telemarketers call you, be sure and get the info on who they work for. Contact their supervisor, and ask them to check the call logs for the previous evening. Ask them to identify who called you and report the incident.

Call the police and a lawyer as well. This could be sweet.

I got a call yesterday morning at 9:00 from credit card people, told them I wasn't interested. This morning, guess what? I get a call at 9:00am from the _same person with the same company selling the same thing_. I told them, "I wasn't interested yesterday, and I'm still not interested today." I also asked them to put me on their do not call list. The person just hung up after I asked to be put on the do not call list. If I get a call tomorrow morning, I'll go absolutely ballistic on whoever is on the other end of the line.

Fox will have a show about this soon, "When the subway guy attacks 3" then "World's scariest subway guy phone calls 4"

I hate them too. They call here ALL HOURS despite the fact they are not supposed to do that. We just never answer when the caller ID says "Unkown"....actually, sometimes Skoorb will just pick it up and yell "Don't call here EVAR!"

Sigh.

You guys got a really bad one though...that's awful for your wife. I can imagine the fear! 🙁
Just get Roy D. on 'em! 😉

Roy D. Mercer, its a prank guy

No need to go ballistic... Just tell them you are dead. Died in a horrible car accident.

Exactly! They couldn't possibly have a rebuttal written for that.

I'm sure, as you are, it's just a guy venting. Don't worry about it.

Damn I'd like to knock that guy's block off though. What a total ass!

I know that some years ago there was a way to setup if you called your phone company they could monitor your line for incoming calls in case he calls back. But I doubt you'll hear from him again though.

i have a question for some of you, do you consider people that do surveys telemarketers? For instance I worked for the National Gallup Poll 3 years ago and i would call people for surveys ranging from what they thought of the president to how they were treated when they bought their last KIA. SOOO many times people would assume i'm trying to sell them something and yell and scream and hang up.

You know, it's really wierd. I never get telemarketing calls and yet I'm not on any "do not call" lists... wonder how that happens?

You ever hear of COPPA and Opt-Out? Learn it.
And when a telemarketer calls your house, simply say (politely), "Please remove me from your list." Keep saying that. Contact your state DMV and fill out the form so they don't sell your name anymore. Rinse. Repeat with phone company, etc. (yes, your phone co. and other utilities sell your name and phone #). The next time you get a "you're already pre-approved!" letter in the mail, read the fine print. There you'll find that they got your credit score from the bureaus and that you can opt out of that as well by calling an automated number (this is the most fantastic thing ever, after I first called this # 5 years ago, I went from 2-3 junk mails a day to not getting a single one for 3 years... you have to renew this every 3-4 years). And lastly, stop giving everyone your damn personal info. Quit giving your phone # to the people at Radio Shack or Great Clips, quit filling out mail kiosk drawings!
Do all that and I guarantee you that you will never get a call or only rarely get a piece of junk mail.

Honestly though, I doubt you'll do any of those things. I think you like complaining. Well, here's news for you: telemarketing calls are never going to stop. Never. They are extremely successful. Here's more: many people like them and respond well to them and not just old grannies desperate for the company. People of all ages and demographics respond positively to telemarketing. OTOH, I understand your position, as I'm not one of those who respond well either. I hate telemarketers. And to be blunt, they hate you. Just tell them to quit calling you and they will... happily.

Repeat after me the magic words: "Please remove me from your list."
If you say that you aren't interested, they will call back. Why? First, because they can. Second, because sales is all a matter of timing. The prospect who told you to fsck off last month is begging for you to help him today.

One more time: "Please remove me from your list." and they can't ever call you again, by law.

<---- No Phone=No PROBLEM!!

A high price to pay you say?

(I get along JUST FINE without a phone....I HATE them, and things have just gotten worse since scumbags like you spoke of have gotten ahold of them.)

But what if your internet provider is down and you need to try a new joke out on someone? Who are you going to tell?

Talk really really quietly so they have to strain to hear; then blast an air-horn in the phone.

I always mess around with telemarketers and pretend I'm listening then I hang up when I say "lemme go get that information..."
