Actually, all of the girls i've dated have driven Hondas...now that I go back and think about it. Might have to change that soon...


And seriously...China??? WTF.....Anyone find it interesting only American manufs do this shit. Mexico I can deal with...barely...but China??

Ditto. Don't really see a debate here. Choosing between a house in the near term or a new car is a no brainer. Get the house, if you can still fit the car in the budget after that, then go for it.
 
My wife drives a 5.6L V8. Funnily enough, she drives it because she thingks its the best looking car ever made.

My wife drives a 5.6 V8 but it's not a ballin' Merc.
 
I'm in the same boat as you are Kabob. My wife wants the 2011 GT with the 6 speed manual and 3.73 ratio. So if anyone knows of a dealership offering good deals, let me know. And I agree, although the V6 has bumped up the power, it's still a V6. It's not even a consideration.

I toyed with the idea of a GT500, but they'd have to offer me a great deal for me to jump on it.

props to her for wanting a GT 🙂 yay for chicks that like cars!(thats coming from me who is one as well). Is she someone who would actually appreciate it, take care of it, know how to drive it and stuff? or is it more just about the name and look of the car? also, if youre looking a that or other important stuff like a house and youre thinking this would be difficult to afford...prob not a good idea.

also, is she keeping it stock? cuz if shes not gonna at least do a little work on it and have some fun with it its kind of just a waste of an amazing car. 🙂

We can afford a house either way, the question is how MUCH house/down payment. Personally I'd like to put a bigger down payment down and knock the mortgage out quickly (and possibly have a nicer house), she says smaller down payment.

Her brother is a performance mechanic and I'm sure he'll want to take a crack at it. Personally though I don't want to go to town on the thing, maybe a few simple mods but nothing major.
 
keep the wrx, wait till the 5.0 GT is used, buy it at half price of new, lose less money. so glad i bought a reasonable car. i was able to get an awesome house instead.

Some more info on the 2011 manual 6 speed. It has a shift skip feature, and people on a few mustang forums are also saying they are having issues with the transmission going into 2nd gear, especially if going around a corner.
Then there is also the "tick" that some of the 5.0's are experiencing and the last I heard, there wasn't a sure fix. Some say Ford put an additive in the oil to help with break in, and if you change the oil to soon you'll get the tick. Others say it is an injector problem, and others report that it is a lash adjuster.

That's what happens when you build a transmission in China, sorry Ford you can boast all you want about a turn around but if you keep pulling shit like this off its just going to drive people away.

Getrag is a German company, fwiw - I'm guessing they had to move production to China to meet the price target that Ford set to hit their price targets.

Yeah I know its a German designed transmission, but a part is only as good as where its built. Normal production for that transmission was in England at the LR plant, should have kept it there and tacked 500 bucks onto the cost of the car.

I'd rather have a French built component than a Chinese built one.
But seriously, If Ford wants to have a good product built for cheaper that what union factories put out, they need to start opening new factories and not allow unions in them. Just phase the unions out. They are what make American mfgering uncompetitive.

For a company as large as they are they can figure something out. Canada, hell even Mexico would be acceptable.

VW still won't build DSG transmissions at ANY of their South American/Mexican plants and won't build the 2.0T motors there because of quality concerns. Just recently they decided to build an engine plant in Mexico (to supply a US factory wtf?) so we'll see what happens with that.

I REFUSE to buy a car with a mexican built drivetrain. I would excuse the transmission on the ford just because I liked it so much. But China is one I wouldn't be able to.

American Ponycar my ass.
