We really like larger dogs, and we plan to go to a reputable breeder. Are choices are:

1. Lab
2. Greater Swiss Moutain dog
3. Mastiff (my wife is kind of iffy about this dog, but I hear they make great pets)

Any advise?

Thanks! :DWe finally made the purchase tonight.

My wife and I deceided to go with a yellow Lab from a reputable breeder. We will pick it up June 12. It will be 8 weeks old at that time. :D

Thanks for everyone's input.

Anyone have any suggestions for names? The puppy is going to be a male.

***Revised 6/13

Wrigley is his name. We picked him up last night. Enjoy the pictures!

Wrigley sleeping
Wrigley chillin' out

4 1/2 week old picture of Wrigley
Approx. 3 week old pic of Wrigley

I've only owned Chows. They are great dogs and do really well with kids.

I had a Great Dane. Fredrick the Great, was his name. He was huge with large joules. I would consider another one, but they slobbler a lot and they have a short lifespan.

Yeah, get a cat. Dogs are a pain in the a$$. You have to walk them and pay attention to them all the time and they are very needy. Cats are great, you put food out in the morning and empty their litter box once a week and that's pretty much it. You can go away for a few days and as long as you leave plenty of food and water the cat will be fine. Leave a dog alone for a few days...well, forget it...you can't leave a dog alone for a few days.

Great Dane
Old English Mastiff
St. Bernard

All great dogs, and all huge.

But the best dog in the world is the German Shepherd :)

Chows are good. I've had a couple. The best dog I've had is probably my current: German Shepard. Extremely smart dog.

Yeah, I'd say get a cat. Just make sure you pet them a lot when they're young, gets them accustomed to liking people and to coming to you to spend time. I had a cat for seven years that was the most loyal animal I've ever seen. I had to give her away to a family friend a few months ago as I can't keep her in my apt. and my mom is moving. :(

That being said, I've always liked Golden retrievers.

Airdale (sp), part of the terrier family, they are very much a familly dog and will protect you and your family till its death, my dad used to have one and he says they are one of the best family dogs.
