Passed the 310 mark (not muscle). This despite working out much more than any other adult that I see anywhere around. I have a pedometer, and last week I walked over 23 miles. (I walk to work and back everyday briskly). My average calorie intake is 1600-1900 calories a day, definately not excessive for my size and the amount I walk.

My health insurance won't pay for a gastric bypass that I'd do in a heartbeat - but I can not swing it anytime soon financially. . .

Sigh - any thoughts?

I'm the smallest of 3 brothers. . . they are in their 40's and are having diabetic problems, and one brother has lost a leg. I walk all the time. . .sheesh. . .
I know diets are bad. . .despite that I tried the no carbs thing - it made me physically ill after 2 weeks. . .

I've cut out all drink calories. I use sweet and low for tea and drink water and no calorie diet cokes. . . I usually have a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a turkey sandwich or something similar for lunch, and like a piece of meat and 2 veggies for dinner. . .

you need to exercise. take 30- 45 min a day 3-4 times a week and just exercise. run outside would be best, treadmill if you cant go outside.

Your calorie intake cannot be 1600-1900 a day. You must not be counting correctly.

Keep a log of everything you eat. Write it down Before you eat it. Make sure you know exactly what you are eating as well. ie...Fried chicken is not the same as grilled chicken, and grilled chicken is not the same as grilled chicken cooked in grease, covered in gravy.

how tall are you? If you are 5 feet then 310 is bad, very bad. But if you are 7 feet then your weight is not too bad.

anyway, sorry about your weight problem. from your post it seems you really do have tremendous amount of fat genes.

before, i forget, you saw you walk, but do you also try to run? and do you ever lift weights and possible do other type of aerobic activity??

loosing weight is definitely not easy

you need to elevate your heart rate for at least 30 min 3-4 times a week. if you walked 6 miles every other day ALL AT ONCE theres no way in hell you would be 310.

Use Fitday.com to track your nutritional intake-take a few pictures of your 'before', and go visit johnstonefitness.com (the forums).

How long have you been on a caloric deficit? I would suggest you start heavy lifting on your legs, back, and chest. Even 3 days a week will get you going.

Post on the JSF forums and you'll get alot of help :)

Lot's of protein and lift heavy!

How long have you been doing this? do you need more time for it to show?

And I guess cut it down to about 1200 calories then. Keep taking it down a notch unti you find the turning point. Obviously you dont need that many calories if it's just turning it to fat. And only drink water. And really really try to run. Even if it's way shorter than the time you walk. Get that heart up a lot more it changes your metabolism. Your metabolism will stay up hiigher longer and burn calories even while ndone exceriscing.

I have no reason to lie.

You are wrong. When I was in high school there was a very obese guy that I saw jogging everyday for years - he never got thinner. He would jog about 3 miles a day. . .I saw him every day at varying points. . . This went on for years. . .

My metabolism sucks too. I am 5'9" and weigh 180lbs... probably about 10 pounds over what I should be. And I work out a minimum 5 days a week, starting off each workout with a 4-7 mile run. And I don't drink soda, ever. And I rarely drink beer. Can't seem to lose the weight.

If you eat that everyday, you cannot weigh 300+ pounds. It simply isn't possible.

I am not trying to sound like a prick, but you really need to write down EVERYTHING you eat and/or drink.

If you eat that everyday, you should be dropping fat pounds at the rate of about 2lbs a week.

being healthy is a lifestyle. Making a change for 2 months and going back isnt going to do ish. You need to make a commitment to change your lifestyle and that means many parts of your life will be affected.

Your diet needs to be healthy. It can not just be "ehh its not bad for me". Your foods actually have to be GOOD fro you, not just no bad.

Your exercise needs to be consistant and you need to keep that heart rate elevated for a decent amount of time. If you walk 6 miles in a day total that doesnt mean much. If you walk 6 miles in a few hours then that will show results.

You need to be mentaly stable too. Stress is a factor in weight gain. Allong with eating healthy and exercising you need to be at peace mentaly.

Once you do these consistantly you will be on the road to a healthy lifestyle.

was he 100% fat? I didnt mean to imply you were lying I just find it hard to believe that someone who walks 6 miles 3-4 times a week and has such a low caloric intake is that overweight.

My completely unscientific opinion:

Cut out sugar and even artificial sweeteners.

Up the water.

Get one of those pedal gadgets that allows your computer monitor to work. No pedal? Monitor no workie :) I've always wanted to try one.

Ok lots of confusion:

I've been walking to work 3 days a week at a round trip of over 6 miles for 3 years.
In two years, I have gained 70 lbs.
I REALLY eat like what I posted before.
I have 2 brothers that are 400 something (one is 400 something missing their leg from diabetes), the other may loose his vision if can't understand he can't drink beer all the time any more since he has developed diabetes.
I have been trying to eat healthy now for over a year - what I posted above has been consistent for 1 and a half years now.
Yes, I have gained weight eating like that and walking all the time. I walk trying not to gain weight.

My stats say I'm healthy. Low cholesteral low blood pressure blood sugar ok - just very obese. .

I am having trouble with sleep apnea - and I am on a cpap machine - i know it is weight. . .

I was obese as a child. When I was about 17, I literally starved myself for a year and dropped 90 pounds. During that time I was very weak, and sick most of the time. Something I can't afford to do now. I literally dropped my caloric intake to about 3 apples a day and water to do it. I have gradually put the weight back on and then some over the years. . .

Genetics isn't responsible.

Lot's of good advice so far episodic. Use fitday.com-you don't have to write it down, you type it in and it logs all macros/micros and gives you a total.

You need an intake of at least 40% protein 40% carbs and 20% fat. If you're that active your BCI (basic caloric intake) for one day with your height and age would be around 3000 calories-which is alot.

I suspect that with this teeny diet your body has gone into shock mode.

I got on the bike over a year ago and rode off about 30lbs. I've ridden about 2500 miles in the last year on my bike between weekend rides, commuting by bike and various organized rides. Of course, my weight when I began this was 210 and I'm 5'11" barefoot.

I've thought about bikes, but it seems that walking burns more than biking. Also, I feel like my weight would probably ruin most bikes I could afford really fast. . .
