hmm, My mom is a professional personal trainer (including helping people with diet) and pilates instructor...
I work out with her a bit and get advice from her. That being said I know basically nothing compared to her, but, I know she claims white breads/cereals (esp. stuff like Captin Crunch, etc...) are the devil.
Here is sample of some the things she suggested for me to eat, which i only do sometimes :/
Real oatmeal (not packaged sweatend stuff) & mix in a good amount cottage cheese -- Don't add sugar!
Tuna is awesome
Chicken is awesome -- but preperation is important ... Boiled Chicken + real rice (NOT crappy white or instant rice!)
Don't bother with Iceberg lettuce ... use something like Spinich instead.
Don't eat pasta at night, carbs that late arent good.
This one I like, snack food...
Multigrain slice of bread, can of tuna on it, grated cheese on that and toss err in the oven for a bit till the cheese melts, its good for a snack.
Little carb (Bread), lots of protien (Tuna) and a bit of fat (Cheese)
Also, at your weight, (some people suggested it earlier) running probably isn't good for you. Walking is good and actually does burn just as much running (it just takes alot longer) ... though it doesn't have the cardio benifits either. Use a bike at the gym or those x-trainers (sort of like running) -- your knees will thank you. Lift weights! This will help with your metabolism though it might cause a increase in body weight in the short run. If you can afford it, get a good personal trainer -- but make sure they are educated and not just some idiot at the gym basically giving out advice (sort of like me right now). Most don't really know what they are doing, they're just people who work out lots and think that because they are in shape they are qualified to help other people get in shape.
Doctors, some are good, others, arent -- probably depends what kind of doctor... I know my mother trains doctors and she claims most are clueless in this area -- she had a GP come to her for backpain, he just didn't know how to "fix" the problem.
Anyways, that being said, cliffnotes of my uneducated adviced are:
-- Continue working on your diet (you should try to get help from a professional as well)
-- Go to the Gym and hire a "good" personal trainer if you can afford it (this is your life, so costs shouldn't matter much) but do shop around for a good one, the good ones can be expensive
-- Some personal trainers have there own studios/gyms and it is 100% 1-1 with no other people around then you won't feel like lots of people are watching you -- I love this having a place to yourself to work out in so awesome, just you and the trainer.
PS. Don't get scammed into the marketing of some of those weightloss programs you probably hear on the radio... and again becareful choosing a personal trainer -- you don't want to waste money on a crappy one.
