My webcam doesn't work

I bought a webcam from Staples a week ago. It is a Micro Innovations IC100C.
When I used the CD in the package to install the drivers, a message said that there was some file with the extension .sys missed. I can't find it in the CD.
So I went to the website of Micro Innovations and download the drivers for WinXP (my OS) and installed it. After installation, the device appears "works normal" in the device management. Then I tried to use the webcam in several applications, including Presto! Videowork from the CD, MSN messenger, Netmeeting. The light above the lens flashed. But there were no pictures displayed.
Then I brought it to one of my friends. He tried it on his computer. The problem is the same. The light flashed, but there were no pictures displayed.
So I thought the webcam may have broken.
Today I went to Staples and had an exchage. But the situation doen't change. The problem is still there.
I just don't know what to do next.
Do you have any suggestions?

The new drivers prolly let the Camera work on XP but not with the software you use...I would return/exchange it @ Staples for a new 1 or refund

I find your answer kind of confusing.
I have mentioned in my post that I have done an exchange for a new one. But that doesn't help.
If I can't use my webcam in any application program such as MSN messenger, how can I tell my webcam works on my OS? Is there any program built in WinXP that can show me some pictures captured from the webcam other than those application programs?

K...what I'm stating is the Camera (Hardware) and it's drivers (Software) are read by the XP OS so if you were to use it with a Vid Card and capture device such as ULEAD, ATI, or another Vid source (your current stuff) it may or may not work...didn't the Camera come with software? If you have tried them and updated drivers plus tried an exchange then I would return it for another device assuming everything has been hooked up properly!
