MY WD Raptor 74GB 10K HD not working anymore

MY WD Raptor was working fine since late February, and then today I woke up and boot my PC and it gets up to Checking DMI then....

"Boot Disk failures, insert system disk & press enter...."

I tried putting the Win XP install disk in and using then WD SATA driver disk and repair, but it tells me that the hard disk can not be found.

Help!!!! How do I fix this?

- Mike

ok I tried another SATA port and it does the same thing - it makes a loading hard drive sound then "Boot Disk failure, insert system disk & press enter...." then the hard drive makes a tick tick tick tick sound and it stops.

Raptors have an excellent warrenty,

I'd just RMA it, I never tried the freezer trick but it would probably void your warrenty.

If your really desperate to get back your data, try it.

If it doesnt matter much to you, just rma it.

I doubt it
The driver's non-operating temperature is stated as -40° C to 65° C

No way they are gonna say "Hey you put your drive inside a freezer"

Moister in the hard drive probably would void any type of warranty. Going from freezing temperatures to hot temps will get your some nice condensation going.

Not if the air inside the drive is already dry, and I'm sure it is.
