A few hundred bucks if you take it someplace. Unless you know what you are doing, take it to a shop. It aint like changing your spark plugs!!

That sucks dood... what brand/type of car?

I think a couple hundred bucks is underrating it. Not only does the actual cylinder head cost several hundred, the labor on it will kill you.

BTW, nice seeing you again GX :D

Damn sorry Gideon. Yes OI have craked a head in my Chevy 350.. I think it costs around $750... they have to pull your engine completly, then take the heads off then resurface them or somethign like just tryign to remember what the mechanic had told me!!
sorry man best of luck. Best thing for you to do is possibly find the parts from a salvage parts store??
just my $.02

It all depends on what type of engine you have and if it's front or rear-wheel drive (because of the labor involved to pull the engine if necessary). Cracked head on my wife's Beretta was gonna cost $2000 to fix. Bought a new car instead.

I had to replace a cracked cylinder head due to over-heating. It was about $800 installed.

ok, just got back from the shop...ugh...i never noticed how nasty sitting in a dirty taxi is! argh..anyway...

they told me worst case scenario, cracked head. $1200 or so replaced, includes labor. But they also said, it could just be a head gasket! So the price would be like 500-600. Still hurting my wallet, but a lot better than hitting a G! I called around a dozen places, they said I might as well get a new engine, $3500! OMFG, i'm a college student, i can barely afford gas! I was thinking about going to the junk yard and finding an old engine and putting it in...guess what...no j. yards in my area! ahhhhhhhh!!!!!! Whats even worse, its an aluminum head!@#^ More cash :( So i said scrap that idea plus I can't afford a new car so anyhoo...i hope its a gasket :) Cross your fingers for me!

RaginBitch - hey buddy! long time no see! I got a 92 Civic...funny thing is...my dad thinks my problems are caused by the mods i put into the car...kinda hard explaining what the mods actually do to someone who only believes in minivans :)

Ed - To some extent those mods will damage the engine depending on the mod. I laugh at the "pretty boys" who buy their new Civics and Integras and slap on mods faster than they can afford to. Then suddenly they have a problem with the car, take it back to the dealer, and realize they screwed themselves out of their original warranty by modding it. (I've seen cars with the paper license plates from the dealer still on cars that had full exhaust systems, wheels, lowering kits, etc) Sorry to hear about the car trouble though. You didn't get a quote from the dealer did you? (They're usually quite overcharged)
