Almost whenever I try to play a game in 3D accelerated mode (Glide, OpenGl, DirectX), the computer eventually freezes. I have not overclocked the Voodoo card at all. I am currently using the latest drivers for the card. HELP ME!!! I hate software mode :disgust:

sounds like a irq conflict with your sound card

http://www.3dxtreme.org/

- Click on START, FIND, select FILES OR FOLDERS.
- In the NAMED box, type in DXDIAG.EXE
- Make sure that in the LOOK IN box it reads the C: or hard drive.
- Click on the FIND NOW button to find the file in a white window
down below.
- Double-click on the DXDIAG file in the white window to open a gray
box with several tabs across the top of the screen.
- Click on the SAVE ALL INFORMATION box at the bottom of the screen.
- In the SAVE AS box that appears click on the down arrow next to
the SAVE IN line.
- Click on DESKTOP from the menu that appears.
- Click on the SAVE button in the lower right corner of the window.
- Click on EXIT to close the Dxdiag window.
- Close all windows back to the Windows desktop screen.
read the file

HappyGamer2...what is the link for ..I went there but did not see anything regarding this problem..just had today's news..
Why a soundcard conflict???....

In my case I tried it in a system where it ran for 6mo without a hitch...but no longer would run even with different drivers....MY amd system is using a SBLive and Intel system was using an Aureal Vortex2 ....

If it is a soundcard problem..great I would love to put the V5 back in ..I love this card...

BTW when I ran it in either systen and checked DirectX 8..and tried to run Direct 3D hardware accel test ..system would lock and cube would not spin...I then tried Voodoolight screensaver..which can run opengl, glide or D3D...no matter what it would lockup and of course no games ran in hardware accel for more than 1 min....

nealh, you have me confused, the V5 works great in the intel with the aureal sound card but not the amd with the SB sound card???? or is your card dead???????
as for IrQ problems with SB cards, it's a common problem esp in AMD machines, some SB live cards use 2 irq's.
checkout the site some more, it has plenty of info on voodoo cards (message board also)

I have my V5 with SB Live on Intel processor but VIA chipset and everything is just fine. Be sure to download the latest 4.31 VIA drivers, those do fix some SB Live related problems.
And if You have AGP V5 card, it is using the same IRQ as the first (closest to the AGP) PCI slot, so it is the best to leave the first PCI slot empty. Or You can read your motherboard manual which says what is using what, but normally it is like this.
Freezing sounds also like not-enough-power problem. Check what power supply You have. 250W should be fine, 300 is the best with many things and V5 in the case.

HappyGamer2...the V5 now works in neither the AMD based system or Intel system...Is it fried..I have no idea..but it runs 2D fine but hardware 3D causes the same type of crash in both the Intel and AMD system so I assumed it was a fried V5 but I never thought to rule out and IRQ problem..in the Intel system it ran for 6mo without a problem so when I put it back and 3D crashed I assumed I screwed up somehow and damaged the card...
I may retry the card in the Intel system and check for an IRQ conflict...
