What are you talking about? AMAZINGLY better? i really really really don't think so.
A current Sentra SE makes 140 hp as well, and MORE torque.

the only thing an Elantra has over the Sentra is that long warranty that you will DEFINITELY be needing in the near future.

All Korean made technology are cheap low end quality things. Sure, you can pick it up for 1/2 the price, but it won't work half way decent compared to the same thing made in Japan/China.

psteng: Tell me, have you been in both cars and test driven them and compared features? The Sentra on the interior is cheap all around with really flimsy accents. Dash was meager, engine performance was PISS POOR. This was the Sentra Limited Edition, 2000 model year. It had at most 110 HP in it, and it couldn't go up a moderate incline at speed with three adults. The Elanta, by contrast, handled the same hill with the same people without any problems whatsoever (with the AC on), has a VASTLY superior warranty, was roomier, better appointed in the interior, and cheaper.

Damn, we must be stupid to have chosen the Elantra, saved all that money, and now drive a better car! What were we thinking?

I have not seen the 2001 Sentras, and they may have fixed the problems I saw. However, the problems with the 2000 Elantra, namely road noise (only complaint I have), have also been fixed in the 2001 model.

Hyundai did deserve a bad reputation when they first emerged, but they make much better products now. They just have to overcome the residual misinformation. Hyundai the car company has been flourishing lately, while I read a report not too long ago that Honda the car company was having some trouble in comparison with their recent history. I thought that was amusing.

Will do: I have been in AND driven both cars.
The Elantra looks crappy and generic, trying to look all upscale when you know it's a POS $10,000 machine. The drive was decent at best.

And I am talking about the SE Sentra. The GXE has 126 hp, not 110.
If you want to see plasticky interior, try the new gen Civics.

No matter how you put it, we both know (and the world knows) it's a Hyundai.

I could take some pics of my old Nissan Sentra that the paint fell off of when it was 2 years old and Nissan wouldnt do anything about it . NISSAN IS SUCK . They make decent engines and transmissions but the entire car is SHEEYOT . They used to make good stuff before when they imported it , but since they started building it in the USA the quality went buh-bye . Id take a 76 Superbeetle before Id take a Nissan of any year .

I remember about 10 years ago of a company that was on the verge of pulling out of the US market. They were burdened with electrical problems, and people were complaining of general junk engineering.

The company used to be associated with bottom of the barrel vehicles.

This company then started to move upscale, offered a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the drive train and now they are adored by many.

This company isn't Hyundai, it's Volkswagen.

A car company CAN turn around and improve itself. Watch out for Hyundai, they are just getting started.
