If you care for my constructive criticism and no sentimentalism, Gobadgrs, here you go:
I think you got it fairly good at the start. The first construction was a good start with a few imperfections (e..g, the right arm area (his left) had no balance).

Anyway, so after the first drawing, everything on the right seemed to have gone wrong. I've never seen a tuxedo looking like that! Although the shadow makes it a little more difficult to see the right side, it isn't entirely invisible. I could make out the shapes and lines. So I have no idea why you shaded the whole area to the extent that they became invisible.

In summary, bring back a trace of the details of the right side (to my right, that is) of his tuxedo. You have made an effort with his arm, but the lining is uneven with the left arm. It needs more "cutting" to even it out. Again, although the reflection of the birdcage makes the details of the right side difficult to see in the original image, one could see a trail of it. (Btw, I can see a white lining along his left arm (on my right). It looks awkward, since that's where an extension of the drawing should be.) Work on the collar too. The left collar is a little too rough/uneven and the right collar is entirely invisible. For the shadow of the flower, maybe make it a little lighter? I think it's a little too dark to the extent that it has a life of its own.

Then again, maybe you have all this planned, just like you took some time to finally do the "more right shading" to reflect portions of the arm.

P.S. Hopefully you won't crucify me for not describing it all in one sentence. (Then again, I shouldn't be surprised if I got that from an ungrateful person!) I'm not techie, so I'm not trying to use vector and all. Also, are you going to tell us why you chose Sean Connery of all persons? Btw, the Jessica Alba thread got much attention partly because she's female.

Maybe it's just me, but I like the right side better than the left side
That's his initial sketch though! Maybe I misunderstand him, but it appeared to me that he had no intent to do much more with it when you look at the progression of his work. I did say that the original sketch was good, albeit with a few imperfections. The progression is primarily what doesn't look right to me.

the right side was just a mockup to better visualize what the lines look like. The end goal is to have a vector image shaded so closely to the original that you think its the first photo.

It's still a work in progress. The right side needs a lot more work. I still need to add the pocket and the cut of the tux breast. The shadow of the birdcage really screws me up. Today I concentrated on getting a good base for the shirt and getting the neck done. The neck should be completely done. I also changed the lips and nose so they blend better. I think the smile looks more like connery's too. And I'm a huge Bond fan. You know that. You've seen pictures of my old room when I shared them with ATOT.

Thats some nice artwork too... my goal was to use gradients so that the image looks just like the photoshop

It seems like its almost impossible to make it look right. People just end up looking plastic. To me the cartoonish vectorized images look really nice, trendy too.

trying to add some sort of style to it is certainly a much better option.

just a note for any aspiring artists who are thinking of doing something like this to put in a portfollio: don't. with the right programs you can knock one out in about 5 minutes and hardly any work, not to mention all you're doing is copying the picture. schools/employers will rank this kind of thing at the very bottom of the pile, no matter how good it is.

It doesn't look like vector work, it looks like a strangely morphed photo. I can't quite figure it out...

Looks like him, though.
