My V5 is running slow...

My system specs are as follows:

Duron 600@1000
V5 5500 AGP
128 MB PC133 CAS2
Abit KT7 (non-raid)
SB Live
Intel NIC
HP CD-RW
52x CD-ROM
Running Windoze ME

I installed all of the latest drivers and getting slow performance in Half-Life (CS mainly). 40-70 fps, dips horribly in firefights. Any help would be appreciated. I got a V7700 right here if this problem isn't fixable...

get the WickedGL

for some reason, the WickedGL provides a HUGE performance increase in counterstrike and MDK2.

We're talking massive.

Very weird.

Robo, my sincere thanks. I'll try that now. I used WickedGL with my V3 board and it worked great, I thought I wouldn't need it with the V5. Thanks again.

Um... I installed them and when I use OpenGL default, it runs the same (I also don't get the WickedGL logo in the top right corner...) and MiniGL "Is not supported by your video card". H3lp!

oh, there's a goofy-ass bug with this, the newest Half Life release deletes a file or loads it to the wrong place or something.... hold on, lemme check....

It's running the same because it's not using the wgl driver.

Okay, found it

Stick the 3dfx.dll file from the gldrv folder to the Half-Life folder (where the patch is mistakenly looking for it) or edit the drvmap.txt file (gldrv folder) to read: "gldrv/3dfx.dll 3Dfx Mini Driver".

I believe that should solve it.

and acroig, I haven't gone just yet, but I'm pretty much one foot out the door

:-/

so I'm stopping in here from time to time to bitchslap Ben and say "hi"

:)

You're going to give people in foreign lands a low opinion of Americans when they see that 3dfx logo on your post screen....

;-)

BTW- I hope your not planning on doing any voting while overseas, it's apparent we care more about the average welfare recipient/bum on the streets votes a lot more than we do those who've elected to risk their lives for us....

wrong. the 3dfx logo has nothing to do with it. It's my flatulence that gets them everytime.
