My user name and spaces

I was just wondering why we aren't allowed to use spaces in our forum names. It's a minor point, but I would have liked to make my name "Old Spooky" to keep it consistent with my name at Ars.

I've seen people with spaces in their username, but I'm not sure how they do it. Perhaps they insert the ASCII code 255 (looks like a space but isn't one)?

---

User names with spaces were registered before we had to exclude "special characters" in the names.

So how do people like "Lady In Red" et. al. get spaces in their usernames?

They registered before spaces in user names were banned

the problem is that people registered like Red Dawn_ (imagine the _ is a space) and made it look like they were the person...

OMG, I'm sorry, I didn't even see your response. That explains it very well, and I can see very well why you had to do that. Thanks for explaining. :)

A troll once went rampant on other sites using my user ID and heatware, simply by putting a dot in front of my user name.. :| This is one reason it is dangerous.
