I have earthlink DSL resid. My usual upload speed was around 136K until I got a netgear FM114P router that lowered it down to 77K. Is there anyway I can increase the speed?

I am not familiar with your Router.

However some Routers have MTU setting and it is usually set to 1500.

Check yours, and if apply change it to 1492.

go to dslreports.com and read up on Rwin tweaking for your OS, that may help a wee bit.

Dr. TCP is a great utility to adjust things!

Jackmds(as usual) was also on the money for the MTU on router.
sometimes, there is nothing you an do.

I have an 8mb OOl cable connection that has been chopped down to 3.5Mb because of the Original Sonic Wall SOHO firewall I am using and nothing can change it.

I tried the same router and it did the same thing. It's obviously the router because without it speeds went back up. I took it back and got a Linksys BEFW11S4 and now uploads and downloads are better (like they are without a router).
