Hey guys,

Ok, I just can't take it anymore. After months of waffling back and forth on whether to upgrade or not, I've finally decided to just bite the bullet and take the plunge. Only the parts listed here I will be upgrading (for now), everything else from my signature will be carried over. So here's what I'm looking at thus far:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131530]ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard...$94.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103546]AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz HT 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor ...$460

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102004]SAPPHIRE 100149SR Radeon X1900XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card ...$459

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231047]G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory ...$139.99

TOTAL (before shipping): $1153

I'm still somewhat undecided about the memory. I haven't heard much about G.Skill, but what I have heard is generally quite good. I only plan on OCing a little bit, nothing dramatic, so I don't need anything too blazingly fast.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Looks good to me. I also have heard good things about G.Skill but I've never used any. I'm quite happy with my Patriot (PDP) memory at 2-3-2-5 1T. Course I got the 512x2 dual channel kit for only 10$ cheaper than the stuff your getting so I say your getting a pretty good deal.

I agree, but it's all of he's up to the task... He can save a bit of money though :). Maybe an opteron 165, since I can overclock it to 2.8 GHz with only 1.4v... Then he can get some g.skill pc4000 ram, which is only $158... G.Skill is reputably one of the best overclocking ram manufacturers for 2X1 GB right now, with lifetime warranty :).

You know that's not a bad idea. It may not be strictly relevant but I've actually seen post of opteron 170s that hit 3+ghz.

3.4 ghz OC OoO!

You have to scroll down a bit.

looks good but i'd say if your going to oc than get an opteron 165,170. Also if your a gamer guessing you are a single core would be better but not by much. I would also get a less expensive dual core 3800+ X2 and just oc it.

Good build, although the opteron 165 is a much better buy if you are overclocking. It'd save you enough to get a XTX card or a 7900GTX if you swing that way.

Looks like a good set-up, but only get an Opteron if you plan on Overclocking. Otherwise, at stock speeds, the X2 offers better value for money.
