My upgrade path..P3 700,Durons and DDR

Hi,
After flashing my trusty old Abit BX6 rev 1 I now had a X8 mulitplier yet the abit web site mentions support only to P3 600...I like to run one of those P3 700 cb0 or cc0 cpus I have been reading about till I can afford to replace the Abit motherboard. I plan on overclocking this chip later in a new board under win2k. I also am putting parts away to build aroung a unlocked Duron 700 I picked up...can this Duron and PC 100 ram cas2 run on the new DDR boards that will be out soon?? This cpu too I hope to O\C to 900+. I plan on picking up an Antec case w/ a 300w PS soon.
Are there any special considerations I need to know should I go the DDR path??

Thanks again...
Breeze

I'm looking at almost exactly the same situation, except I have the BH6 1.0 board. I don't want to spend too much money, but my C300A/450 is way to slow! I guess I'm gonna have to flash the bios and see what multipliers are supported -- according to Abit's site, the BH6 1.0 only supports p3 600 like your bx6.

juyanith, your best option for that board is probably a celeron 566 @ 850 or a C 633 @ 950. This keeps you at 100MHz fsb, so you have no ram hassles or other problems. 🙂
I would not recommend putting an Overclocked PIII on there, as I don't think that particular board has a 1/4 pci divisor, so your system would be way out of spec and probably not work.

I see I am not the only one still using earlier Abit boards. Like you I too am running a 300a @450. But in regards to Compuwiz1's reply I hoping to run the P3 700 at normal 7 x 100, this alone should be a vast improvment. Then overclock it in a newer board that will have a 1/4 pci setting....good point. I have read on this forum about the p3 700E being a good O\C for the money esp the cb0 and cc0. I also considered a celeron 2 this will be my other choice if a P3 700 cannot be used .
A cel 566@ 850 would be a nice upgrade for the $$ too 🙂

Thanks for the replies and your suggestions!
