My Uncle is dying from cancer EVERYWHERE

Oyeve

Lifer
My uncle worked for the FDNY and was a first responder when 9/11 happened. He stayed non-stop for days. A few months later he developed astma and soon after he had to go on disability. Docs couldnt find the cause, his health has mysteriously deteriorated since and he has been bed-ridden for a long time. He has been going to doctors for years and no one could pin point any of his health problems. Well, a tumor was found on his pancreas, he went in yesterday and when they opened him up for a biopsy they just closed him back up. His body is riddled with cancer. They cant even treat him because it basically is all over his body. He will die soon I fear. Another unsung hero who the govt has abandonded as they stopped workers comp and any other pay he was getting while in the FDNY years ago claiming "nothing" was in the air during that time.

Please, I am not a religious man but I am a spiritual one. Please say a prayer for him.

Thanks.

He passed away lastnight 11/24/2008.

*Thanks everyone for the kind words and prayer, it's much appreciated*

How disheartening for the surgeons to find that.
I hope he isn't in extreme discomfort, best wishes to your family

Oyeve, that is terrible news. So sorry to hear that. Best wishes to your family, and thank you to your uncle for serving for the good of the city and nation in a terrible time of crisis

Sounds like a great man. Unfortunately there was a lot of asbestos, among other things, in that building due to the time it was constructed. All the dust and debris was full of it and quite a few that worked the site are suffering the same fate.

My heart goes out for him.

That sucks. Anyone posting here saying 9/11 was an inside job is an asshole.

Way to takes this off topic. You have 3 days off and another warning in your file.

I wonder how long he's actually had cancer. I mean it seems like it's been brewing for awhile.

Sorry to hear it though. Cancer sucks. 🙁

What the FUCK does that have to do with the topic at hand? Don't bring shit like that up in a place it has no business. Go argue elsewhere.

🙁

A former soccer coach of mine just got a similar diagnosis. He was the picture of health for many years, able to outrun us teenagers on the soccer field years ago. Since then he's been in good health, never smoked, nothing. Then he started coughing a lot and went to the doctor for it. They found he had stage 4 (basically everywhere) lung cancer. It had spread all over his body too. Sometimes it just happens.

It is hard to find the words to say. I offer condolences to your family. I am not a religious person myself, but my thoughts and well wishes are with you and yours. Good luck to your Uncle. I really hope there is something he can do. It really is a tragedy.

i'm sorry to hear that...my mom was diagnosed with stage iv pancreatic cancer a few months ago. it crushed us when we heard there was nothing they could do, and gave us a prognosis of 3-6 months. i will send up a prayer on behalf of your uncle.

pancreatic cancer is such a wretched disease. listen to randy pausch's (the professor who gave the last lecture at carnegie mellon) testimony before congress before he died. video
