1) ive heard that the Zotac's wireless is a piece of trash
2) ram=1.5v~1.6v, choose one that is set a 1.5v
3) go with a cheaper psu, like the corsair builder v2 430watts
4) adding onto #3, yes your build can run on 430 watts
5) change SSD to a Intel or Crucial
6) get a aftermarket heatsink, like the shurikan

1) People say that rosewill wireless is trash also, but all mine run flawlessly :)
2) Reason being? Most 2133 kits are 1.6v... My DDR2 ram runs at 2.1v, so I don't think .1v will make any difference at all...
3) After having 3 Corsair CX430V2's, (all working), I recommend them ONLY as
a budget option... if you can afford better get better... they ALL have a high-pitch whine, which when under the desk I don't notice, but on the desk I do...

5) That's the general consensus, sure, but I run two Sandisk 120GB drives and they work great... as well as my Intel works great... I'm not in the "Intel or M4 only" genre... Unless they're equal price for the same size, then of course! I trust Mushkin more than OCZ... And it's close to the $1/GB price range :)
6) Good call on the heatsink

2) Reason being the memory controller built into the CPUs these days isn't rated for over 1.55v RAM. Considering SB doesn't care much about memory speed, I'd point you to low-voltage RAM for cooler operation.
5) I'm not in the "Intel or M4 only" genre either. I'm in the "Stay away from Sandforce controllers unless they come from Intel" genre. Samsumg 830s have Marvell controllers too, and I swear I saw a drive with a Marvell controller and a 5-year warranty once. I just can't remember the brand.

No... no... no. If you have a 2500K you must have it in a garganutan case like the CM HAF-X! ...with 63 fans. ...and a 1200w PSU. ;)

That is kind of a cool case (the Li Lan,) I'd never seen that before.

Good call on the blower-type GPU, never thought of that since normally they're not as good, but in this case, may be better!

As well I like the Ares G.Skill ram, 1866 should be plenty ;)

- overkill case
- overkill PSU
- overkill RAM speed and wrong voltage
- sandforce SSD
- I'd build a small form factor rig around i5-2400 and H67 rather than overclock
- if you're going to carry around a gaming PC often, might as well buy a 17" gaming laptop - and if you don't carry it around often, might as well build it in a mid tower, or at least microATX

Would not buy, sowwy :)

I agree with lehtv, Ken, and Yamamoto.

It should also be noted that the timings on that DDR3 kit are atrocious (CAS 11). That'll perform the same as CAS 9 DDR3 1600. So I guess I don't really see the point in paying more for out of spec memory that doesn't perform any better than less expensive memory that follows the spec.

Anyway.

I updated everything with your suggestions, and lehtv, considering you said everything was overkill, my redesigned system is MORE expensive now... lol.

But I will agree, the new build is a lot better matched component-wise... I think that would be a kick-ass portable rig!!

And how much would a gaming laptop with the graphics capabilities of a HD7870 cost? Yeah, didn't think so :)

Well since you swapped to i5-2500, the Scythe Shuriken isn't strictly needed. But it might lower temps and noise. Still, not essential.

Can't run 7870 off of the Neo Eco 400C without adapters. Not enough PCIe cables, you see. Either swap to 7850 (need only one 6-pin) or buy a 500W unit. XFX 550W is only $45 AR on NCIX, very nice deal.

RAM speed still overkill as H67 doesn't support anything over 1333MHz.

The 256GB SSD is a nice idea.

And how much would a gaming laptop with the graphics capabilities of a HD7870 cost? Yeah, didn't think so :)

Waiting to find a friend to A) Want a portable PC, or B) Buy my PC so I can build one :D

Good call on the ECO400... Found a SeaSonic 430W with 2 PCI-E connectors :) Doubt this PC will use any more than 250-300w, so 430 seems like plenty.

Updated original post... Still within $30 of the other price... lol. Could probably go with a cheaper PSU, but hey, cheaper isn't always better :) The money I saved on going with a PCQ08 instead of the TU-200 case was spent on the SSD..

As for portable, lots of people have a HDTV I could play on ;) Or just lug a spare monitor!

I don't know. 550W for $70 is still better value than 430W for $75.

Hopefully that video card will actually fit in that case. Looks like you have to remove the bottom drive cage.

I've got some nice older rigs to sell too, and I can't find any buyers either.

They say that the desktop computer market is shrinking, I guess that's true.

Q9300 @ 3.0, P35 mobo, 8GB DDR2, 30GB SSD, 500GB HD, ATI HD4850. Was asking $500 on CL, got no leads.

CPU $50
MB $50
RAM at most $50
SSD at most $50
HDD $50
GPU at most $50

And this assumes that everything has around a year of warranty, otherwise just 70-80% of the stated price.

And if you want to sell all that together, then you should expect around $200 or so with not more than $20-30 on shipping
