I bought my Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32XBR400 32" TV in 2000 for about $1600 from CC with a 3 year extended warranty.

Today, I tried to turn the sucker on and it seems like the relays shuts power off. I hear clicks and about 5-8 blinks on the stand by light.

In summary the damm TV will not come on.

It needs service/repair. Sucker is heavy ...about 200 lbs. No warranty

Why can't we have warranty on items live we have on cars.....based on usuage.

What do u guys think I should do??????

First, I think you should figure out how much it's going to cost to fix the TV.

Go without one. I've done it for forever; it pains me to see people stare at those things for hours on end when they should be doing something useful.

Yup, exactly... d'oh! Ok, no more posting for me. Hey, at least you have to use your brain interactively on the computer (typing, browsing, etc.)

To be honest, you have to think a lot watching game shows, mythbusters, whodunnit crime dramas, etc. etc.

TV rules!

Alas the death of yet another excellent CRT. Our beasts that actually display black properly will soon be a thing of the past... *sniff sniff*

Have an estimate done for the repair, if it's something simple (power supply cap.) it's
worth getting fixed/ If it's the flyback transformer your looking at 150-200 range.

I have a feeling that if the warranty was based on usage that would have expired a long time ago.

fix it. it doesn't sound really serious. my grandparents have this old B&O TV from 1990. they did recently fix the transformer but for a 16-17 year old TV, ths picture is great! plus it still looks really good.

I called goodwill and they said they will accept it.......people buy old TV's, repair them and sell it off at a used appliance store

Manufactures should warranty their quality for a while...look at Kia..100K mile warranty. Would be nice to have a 100K hrs warranty on TV's. so any math wizes out there.....how many hrs/minutes a day would that be

I've had a Quasar 27" Set break on me a couple times now, about every 2-3yrs it seems. Cost me $100ish to get it fixed both times. Still has a nice picture and a replacement would have cost far more each time (it has PIP and some other features that entry level sets do not). Of course, I'd like to upgrade but sometimes it's worth it to just repair it. Odds are you'll get at least 2-3yrs more out of your set if you get it fixed.

I repaired a TV with a similar problem. It was a simple diode on the power up circuit. Total cost == $0.15 + my time.
