My transmission exploded.

Walked into my garage this morning and smelled a very distinct smell. Tranny fluid.

Last night I had missed a throw from 2nd to 3rd and landed in 5th. Turns out thats hard on the forks. Initially I thought I may have had shifter cable damage, but nope... much MUCH worse than that.

New transmission time. Im in talks with a local guy that may have 1991 available. Its not as good as the one I have because it only has single syncros instead of dual syncros. Also its a Non-Limited slip differential, so ill need to go aftermarket for that.

Finding a replacement 93+ LSD transmission might be difficult.

sucks. I planned on attending my first autocross this Saturday. Well, Thats not happening.

That sucks man. maybe the missed shift was a symptom and not a cause?

Im not sure. SOunds like its not that uncommon of a problem. Ive already found someone on another forum that said that their 4/5 fork broke very similarly to this.

Im wondering if its repairable. THis might be the time to learn about transmissions.

having driven straight cuts before, no. After a few minutes of awesome it cuts straight into your brain.

FTFY

I may have sourced a replacement already, but its not a LSD. Its getting sent to the machine shop to see if it passes quality control before installation. If all is good I may nab it up and throw an aftermarket Limited Slip Differential into it.

Hey Fuzzy I wonder if the axle failure problems contributed to additional wear on the shift forks? No idea if one could impact the other, but with the motor movement you were experiencing with the first set of motor mounts that failed, I wonder if that was able to stress some stuff (motor/trans twisting, shift levers getting pulled on by the shift cables, etc)? Just speculation...

LOL ^^
Its not super common, not unheard of to break the forks.

A skipped shift causes that? I hope you don't roll your eyes in front of it. The hood might blow off.

a skipped shift at WOT 6500+rpm will do that. Casual skipping, no. I was beating on my car, and finally it said "I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE! F MY LIFE!"

Im kinda depressed about it actually. I was REALLY looking forward to autocross. Ive missed this free event for noobs two years in a row already, and this was looking promising this year. Car says Nope.
