I'm trying to to figure out how I could have picked it up... the only thing I can think of is when I went to the grocery store I didn't use the paper towel sanitizer on the handle bar of the shopping cart.

Everclear will either cause this type of problem or solve it. Did you already drink everclear? If not, do so. If so, then stop doing that.
 
this happened to one of my coworkers about 2 weeks ago.

she was vomiting and bed-ridden for the next week+

I woke up this morning with my throat killing me. also coughing up phlegm. ugh i don't like being sick.
 
Hit me yesterday too. Wife has been sick for about 4 days now. Nose now stopping up and body aching. 🙁
 
Probably strep throat. Go see a doctor, you'll probably get Biaxin XL 500mg - if you can get it off the shelf then that works too but pretty sure that's prescription only. That stuff is awesome. Strep is one of those things that wont go away on it's own so may as well get it checked now.

And you never touched doors, counters, your car, pets, friends, computer, light switch, shoes, belt...? The sanitizer sheets for grocery carts are marketing for the store. They have no impact on lessening your exposure to bacteria.
 
Airborn particles could have gotten you as well. Be sure to wear your hospital mask next time, along with your tinfoil hat. 😉
 
The gene pool is trying to improve itself by weeding out those too weak to survive a trip to the grocery store. So either you survive or your death makes future generations stronger. It's win-win.
 
Theraflu Flu & Sore Throat is what's saving my life right now. It just mixes in hot water and tastes like apple cider. Not bad at all.
 
I drank a lot of tea, took two days off of work (hurt to talk, and customer service makes it tough to not talk), and slept 14 hours a night. Cleared right up.
