The cinematography was refreshing and visually stunning on my 53" widescreen HDTV, but the mood was rather bleak. Be prepared for a slooooooooooooow ride and a WTF when it's over.

I hope it's good.

"2001: A Space Odyssey" was slow, but a cinematic masterpiece.

"Solaris" was slow and crap.

I saw it and don't remember much about it.
Didn't really mean much to me I guess.

I agree with your review, I REALLY wanted to see it after seeing the previews.

But after I saw the movie, I felt let down :(

As I got done saying in another thread, I HATED that movie. It was very well shot and acted, and the FX are totally top notch... but my god, I have never seen a story so waste its potential! The setup alone lent itself great to ideas of psychological horror, some manner of mystery investigation, even a pure sci fi exploration story.

Instead we get Clooney pining for his dead wife for 100 minutes. And did anyone else think the wife was a total ditz? Sure she was good looking and all, but there were instances I wanted to slap her for being so stupid. I suppose you can blame the setting, but when I went to see it, I was expecting something more than a microscopic examination of a psychologist who is unable to help himself as he slips over the edge into... what, insanity? Death?

Rarely have movies bored me so.

I never saw the new one, but I saw the original one, and just couldn't finish it. Sounds like it hasn't gotten better since then.

I haven't seen it yet but I want to. I'm all about Sci-Fi and this looks like it fits that category... at least from the previews, as I don't know anything more than it's a remake of the older movie.

Yeah, it does have some b!tchin' previews, I will give it that.

As for its sci-fi content... it's set on a space station in orbit around an alien planet. Really, that's it. You see some nifty sets and some great model work. The rest is a psych examination. This is definetly a movie for ppl to avoid at all costs. Unless you're an insomniac of course.

Anyone remember the Sphere? I thought that was a good movie, and it was setup the same as Solaris is (anyways in the previews) but basicly it talks about what could happen if a mans thoughs became reallity.

Eh, I kind of liked it. Looked pretty badass on my 57 widescreen HDTV so that has been known to skew my movie ratings. But if you have a nice TV, it's definitely worth watching just for the visuals alone imho.

Yeah, I just finished watching it. My initial thoughts are that this movie was good, except for the whole story. How can Clooney and Soderbergh team up to make such a piece of crap!!?

I would have enjoyed this movie if I were high, but, unfortunately, I wasn't.

I saw it on a plane, and thought it sucked then. I found myself removing the headphones and staring at the back of the seat ahead of me for the last hour, so if that's more entertaining, something's wrong.
