After much research and eating, i have come to the conclusion that ancient chinese technological advancement stopped because of lack of a more effective eating utensil.

2000 years ago, china led the world in technology. but it stopped. I believe, that's because all energy from that point on that would have gone into innovation, instead got consumed trying to eat small pieces of meat with sticks.

before anyone asks, yes, i suck at using chopsticks :p

I don't know about you man, but it took me about 20 minutes to learn how to use chopsticks when I was a lad.

Yup, Americans with hamburgers, chips, ice cream cones, and beer cans got some time freed up.

Reminds me of the family guy episode where they show the Irish before they invent beer.

It never advanced much to begin with when most of their knowledge and technology revolved around spooky myths and mystical i-ching forces. And to top it off, add in the supression from Confucious' filial piety bullsh!t, where you're expected to unquestionly obey authority - it's no wonder they never got too far.

<- Chinese ;)

Seinfeld: I'll tell you what I like about Chinese people. They're hanging in there with the chopsticks, aren't they? You know they've seen the fork. They're staying with the sticks. I don't know how they missed it. Chinese farmer gets up, works in the field with a shovel all day. Shovel. Spoon. Come on. You're not plowing 40 acres with a couple of pool cues!

fixed, roughly

IMO China was too spooked by their endless history of constant threat of invasion by barbarians that they decided to keep a defensive and isolationist philosophy. Combine that with a mindset that China had everything they wanted or needed within their own boarders and you have little reason to explore or expand.

Heck, Rome was in a similar situation 2000 years ago - messing around with steam power and what not, imagine where we'd be today if Rome had been able to harness something like that way back then.

i think it's the whole monarchy/communism thing.. capitalism has allowed more "crazy notions" become real useful inventions...

but dude, chopsticks aren't that hard people.. you can hold a pencil? then you can use chopsticks!

It's much easier to use chopsticks than to operate a pencil.
That said ...

I am an expert at eating.
I have perhaps the world's worst handwriting.

Not at all. Lord Yu left, and took his technology with him. After that the Chinese people were effectively fvcked.
