thanksgiving day i always play football with a big group of guys. so this time one of my friends brings beer. i personally do not like beer. so we are playing football and my gf is sitting on the sideline watching us, with the 12 pack (with 9 full cans in it) sitting next to her. out of NOWHERE, a cop shows up behind her, and at this time my OTHER friend is drinking a beer and he sees this. so he asks my gf and my friend for ID's.
to make a long story short, he goes back to his car and comes back 10 minutes later, with another officer. my gf gets a ticket for possession of the beer, and my other friend gets a ticket for drinking in a public place. it was for $50 a piece. the cop then goes on to tell my friend that he could have arrested him if he wanted to do so, but instead he let him off easy with a fine.
okay, now keep this in mind. we were playing football at a field right next to a school, at 10am in the morning. also keep in mind that this is at a DEAD END road where NO other cars or people can see us. we were just going about our business playing some football and someone had a 12pack of beer, and there were what ... 25 of us playing football? not to mention we were all over the ages of 21. its not like we were being obnoxious getting wasted at 10am next to a school. we were minding our business, and my one friend was drinking his first beer out of the 12 pack, with 9 sealed cans left. the other 2 beers were drank by 2 other guys earlier. my gf didn't even have any beer consumed at all, yet they cited her for the possession just because she was the closest to it.
not to make this a racial issue, but for the record, my gf is hispanic and my friend was a black guy. the cops also told us that some of the cars were parked illegal and we needed to move them, saying some of us were double parked, blocking in cars. remember, this was a dead end and the only cars being blocked were people playing football, who had no problem with this.
i mean i understand they are 'doing their job' and that i guess, since it was next to a school, you aren't even ALLOWED to have the beer on the field, so technically i guess whoever brought the beer was in the wrong. the cop even said that if the beer was in the car he could have fined someone because it was 'next to a school' or some bs like that (maybe because it was parked near a public park, i forget).
but i mean, COME ON! give us a break! we weren't bothering ANYONE, we were just doing our annual football game! what a buncha bs, we still had fun though.
