thanksgiving day i always play football with a big group of guys. so this time one of my friends brings beer. i personally do not like beer. so we are playing football and my gf is sitting on the sideline watching us, with the 12 pack (with 9 full cans in it) sitting next to her. out of NOWHERE, a cop shows up behind her, and at this time my OTHER friend is drinking a beer and he sees this. so he asks my gf and my friend for ID's.

to make a long story short, he goes back to his car and comes back 10 minutes later, with another officer. my gf gets a ticket for possession of the beer, and my other friend gets a ticket for drinking in a public place. it was for $50 a piece. the cop then goes on to tell my friend that he could have arrested him if he wanted to do so, but instead he let him off easy with a fine.

okay, now keep this in mind. we were playing football at a field right next to a school, at 10am in the morning. also keep in mind that this is at a DEAD END road where NO other cars or people can see us. we were just going about our business playing some football and someone had a 12pack of beer, and there were what ... 25 of us playing football? not to mention we were all over the ages of 21. its not like we were being obnoxious getting wasted at 10am next to a school. we were minding our business, and my one friend was drinking his first beer out of the 12 pack, with 9 sealed cans left. the other 2 beers were drank by 2 other guys earlier. my gf didn't even have any beer consumed at all, yet they cited her for the possession just because she was the closest to it.

not to make this a racial issue, but for the record, my gf is hispanic and my friend was a black guy. the cops also told us that some of the cars were parked illegal and we needed to move them, saying some of us were double parked, blocking in cars. remember, this was a dead end and the only cars being blocked were people playing football, who had no problem with this.

i mean i understand they are 'doing their job' and that i guess, since it was next to a school, you aren't even ALLOWED to have the beer on the field, so technically i guess whoever brought the beer was in the wrong. the cop even said that if the beer was in the car he could have fined someone because it was 'next to a school' or some bs like that (maybe because it was parked near a public park, i forget).

but i mean, COME ON! give us a break! we weren't bothering ANYONE, we were just doing our annual football game! what a buncha bs, we still had fun though.

heh, sounds like a drag, but it according to the letter of the law (parking violations, alcohol, etc...) it could of been much worse.

If the group pitched in 4 dollars each, the fines would be covered.

Neighbors called them, almost guaranteed. They've probably gotten sick of troublemakers being over there and phone every time they think they can get someone in trouble so that it becomes too much of a hassle to bother going there anymore. At any rate, it's generally illegal to bring alcoholic beverages on public school grounds.

we did that actually heh, however my gf is taking it to court. my uncle is also a cop, and i talked to him later at dinner. he was like 'i hate county cops, they are such dickheads! you definitely need to take that to court and most likely it will get thrown out!'

yeah, we know that. also i am like %90 sure i remember him saying it was because it was a public park that he actually gave the violations. but the whole point i was making and what bothered me was that we were just having a good ol time playing some football, and no one was really drinking. sucked that my gf was sitting down when my friend w/the beer arrived becuase he set it down next to her when he said hi to her.

consider yourself lucky.

I got a $140 ticket for drinking a beer outside the designated parking lot of Dodger Stadium...

went to pay it...the cashier asked if i was sure i didnt want to see the judge because it didnt cost anything

went to court to see if the judge would reduce it...took a full half day just to put in my plea...he said it was $180 and might be more if i went to court...pled no contest as it wasnt worth another day off work

when i told the judge the ticket was only was $140, he said "well you decided to come see me, so now I decide and I say its $180"

most expensive budweiser ever!

(2 of my friends got it too, so cali made $460 off of 3 beers)

yea i remember your thread about that actually, only what was going on here at the football game was ALOT more secluded and we were basically in a field that was surrounded by trees on all sides, with the exception of the entranceway to the field. you could see the school through the trees behind the field.

i know thats no excuse, it just sucks :(

Next time put your beer in a cooler and have your friend stuff the one he's holding down his pants. Without probable cause he can't open the cooler.

Next year, be sure to bring a radio to your football game, and play the song F*** THE POLICE by N.W.A.

and I see you ran up and stood up for your girlfriend huh?

We had a very similar thing happen and I just told the cops it was mine. Paid the fine, got a rewarded from the GF quite nicely, and didnt complain about it on an internet forum.

What a nice guy you are.

lol yea i forgot you were there and saw the whole situation asshat.

the cop didnt give 2 shlts who's beer it actually was. he even said it to the whole group "i'm sure this isn't even her beer, and it might be her boyfriends, but she was the one closest to it when i saw it, therefore she is getting the ticket. i don't care how she comes up with the money, you all can pay for it if you want, but i had to give it to her since she was sitting right next to it. not him, not you, not her boyfriend, no one ... her."

You were drinking in public, what do you want? I got one too, it was for $150, and it was for 40's that had been opened but resealed. I hate the law, it sucks, but it's what it is. Pay the fine and don't go to court and waste your time for $5 from everyone.

yah definitely. the thing is, NO one saw these cops until they were like 5 feet from behind my girlfriend, who was sitting at like the 50 yardline facing the football field. and my friend with the beer was on the side line facing the football game, turns around AS he's sipping, and thats the first time anyone saw the cops, which were arleady 5 feet behind my GF.
