My teacher said no OS supports 512MB above of RAM. I think he's an idiot! Which ones do and which ones don't?

He said he's techy guy told him (he's a programmer) that no OS supports more than 512MB of RAM. So, it's useless to have 1gig of RAM.

Not true. I've got atleast a gig of ram in each of my systems, if not more. Heck, it takes me a minimum 512MB to run Pro E efficiently!

I have a WinNT 4.0 server running Oracle 8i that has 2GB of memory in it with Quad P3 700MHz Xeons w/ 1MB L2! He can come check it out if he wants.

I wouldn't bother with more than 512 meg either.. I think it's a waste... not as if going from 256 - 512 makes even a small diff in a win9x machine especially..
in NT I think 512 is a perfect amount.. it would only be better if u could actually somehow use up 512 MB without having to really TRY hard..

aside from TRYING to fill up your RAM by opening up everything you have installed at one time.. 512 MB will "feel" just as fast as anything more will.

Yeild, you obviously don't work with Exchange, Database (SQL or Oracle), Web servers or anything else server related. Servers, generally speaking, will use just about every bit of memory you feed them.

Dude Windows 2000 Server will run more than 512 for sure. I know, we have ones with one gig at work. Professional should do more than 512 too.

Windows 9x will not work well with too much RAM though.

Are you in high school? most high school teachers suck a$$

Home based computers will not benefit much from 512mb.
Servers will defenity though.

sure it might.. but when i have 512 and i only use like 25% when doing all my normal stuff there is totally no need in having a ton of RAM..

it all depends on what you use.. I'd never need more so I don't care.. that's all I was getting at...
if you buy more because you think it's going to go faster that is where you are wrong... u see what I mean???

I bet I COULD use up a gig of RAM.. but I'd have to be trying awfully hard...

anyways.. yeah.. that's it.. :p
