I finally decided on Epox.....

amd 1.4ghz 266mhz
Epox EP-8K7A+ ddr(amd760)
2x 256mb PC2100 CL2.5 Crucial ram
Enlight 300w psu
Alpha pal6035 hsf
Maxtor 60+ 7200rpm ata100 30gb
Western digital 7200rpm ata66 15.3gb
Sblive value
Creative 3d blaster tnt2 ultra
Sony 52x cdrom ide
Iomega zipdrive 250mb internal ide
3com/scv eternet card

I'm not overclocking and
I do not intend to setup raid and will not configure it to raid setup.......but I intend to use the IDE raid port by HPT370 so I can hook up more ide devices.....

I intend to connect them this way.....

---normal IDE Port---
primary master: Sony 52x cdrom ide
secondary master: Iomega 250mb internal ide

---IDE raid Port by HPT370---
primary master: Maxtor ata100 30GB
secondary master: Western Digital ata66 15.6GB

may be getting a ide cdrw in near future and will connect it to secondary master and put zipdrive to secondary slave...

any compatibilty issues or things I have to take note? I need some final comments before I get Epox ddr.

thanks!:)

:)

Don't get the SB Live! at all costs, they like to incompatible with everything they can...especially AMD chipsets...there's a specific AMD chipset it's bad with but I forget it...

Sounds really great as long as you don't game since the TNT2 Ultra will hold back the rest of your system.

Woah yeah, if you plan on doing anything on that system besides surfing the net, you want a much better video card than that! Surfing with this system would be a total waste...

Yeah, that card is pretty old technology for 3D, but if gaming is not your thing, it should be okay. Sounds like you did some homework on that system, and it should work great. You could put the Zip on secondary slave right off the bat so that when you put the CD-RW in it will be ready to go at secondary master. Also, no DVD? Doesn't cost much more and adds versatility, but just a suggestion.

The live 5.1 will work just fine, I have this setup. only motherboards with both a VIA northbridge and southbrige have problems and once again I stress that it is a problem with VIA not creative

If he's going to be buying a brand new sound card, the sound blaster live! is just a waste of money. But lets say he already has one, I dont think it would hurt to try it out and see if it really works and he's satisfied or not. If you are planning on buying that tnt2 ultra, first off, why would you? It's real old technology. If your on a tight budget and want good quality, why not go for something like a radeon LE, or a kryo II. Even if your not on one, those two cards rock, especially the kryo.
