I have a APC UPS XS1500 battery back up. When the PC goes off AC power from the wall and the UPS kicks in my system will go blank screen and then shut off properly. Almost if it is going into hibernate. Upon reboot there is no " your pc shut down incorrectly " nor does it load up from a hibernate image. It boots up just as if it shut down normally.

So you might be thinking the problem is in the APC device but understand my PC will run for 30mins on the device if I simply unplug the data usb cable from the device so my PC does not know it is on battery back up power.

Something in my system is causing my PC to immediately go into shut down mode the moment it detects via the USB cable to the device that it is off the AC wall power and running on battery. That would leave me to focus on either WIndows power management software or the APC UPS utility. Both of these I have made sure are set to not shut down right away. Also this is not an overload issue, the screen reads 28mins of run time when it is running on battery (while the USB is unplugged ).

I can't figure this out, something software related is triggering my system to shut down which is VERY annoying when there is a flicker in the power or my laser printer kicks in and my AVR function triggers the voltage drop which also turns off my PC. The reason for this obviously is to keep my power constant but the only way that works is if I disconnect the data cable from the APC UPS to the PC but then my system will not shut down automatically if I am away. HELP.

That's really odd, have you checked the settings in the software? Also how old are the batteries, will the UPS run a decent time with a load on it? (try like 300w worth of light bulbs as a test) I wonder if the software is thinking the UPS battery is almost run out and shutting down prematurely.

Truly thank you for responding and trying to help. I would ask you to read my post again because your questions were already answered in my original post. :)

Like I said in the OP, I can run the system for 30mins if I simply disconnect the cable. The battery is fine, the run time is fine. The software is triggering it to shut down instantly once it detects its on battery. I think I found something though in the last 10mins since I posted.

This issue was happening when I had the APC software installed which takes control over Windows Power options and even after I uninstalled it from my system. I think the issue is in Windows because I found the critical battery state is set to 98% meaning as soon as Windows detects battery is at or below 98% it believes it is in a critical state and must trigger the power down command. Problem is I cannot change this setting, it is locked under windows at 98%.

I plan to reinstall the software again now but 30mins when I originally had the software loaded it still had the issue as if Windows was still controlling this behind the APC software.

Ok, I had in the past month back when I first noticed this issue and was trying to figure it out uninstalled the APC software and tested the issue with Windows Power management. Same issue occurred.

This time I uninstalled the APC software again, moved the USB data cable that was going to a powered USB hub to the back of my PC. Then reinstalled the same version of the software that I previously had installed.

I checked Windows power settings and the battery area was again missing since the APC software now controls battery functions.

Well this time I unplug from the wall and my system doesn't shut off. NICE!!! Somehow Windows power management was still overpowering the APC software before and shutting off the system. Now at least after the reinstall & relocation of USB plug in it is working. Maybe this post will help someone with the same issue later down the road. Thanks for your response to the post.

TO ALL FUTURE READERS - Easter is tomorrow(at least it was when I wrote this). Best day of the year. The true God that created us and paid the price for our sin (yes we are all sinners) and rose again on the 3rd day. He died for us but his payment does not automatically apply to everyone. The bible commands that you REPENT (acknowledge your sin, turn from it, humble yourself before your creator) and BELIEVE (believe that you cannot work your way into heaven like all false man made religions believe. The only reason you can be saved is by the Grace that God has given you and payment paid in full by the blood that Jesus Christ shed on the Cross roughly 2000 years ago)

It sounds like a software configuration that stuck, even when you uninstalled the software. So when you re-install, make sure you are giving it a time entry before shutdown. You may even find that there is updated software that handles this better.

Edit: just saw your update. Good deal.
