Did you disable trueform and and install the latest Hyperion VIA 4.49 drivers?

Some Bios tweaks worth a shot, disable all video ram cacheable, disable system bios cacheable, disable all video shadowing, disable fastwrites, and it`s worth playing with the AGP aperture size, with your total ram size you can play with the 64mb,128mb,256mb AGP size and see which gives the best performance.
First, thanks for the reply. Okay I'm done with all th modifications to settings... I still can't get a steady 125FPS, even at 800x600 it still fluctuates deom 90-125fps in Q3A...

Yes I have the latest drivers for every component in mycomputer, available...

The 9800 is a great piece of hardware - just takes some "lovin'" to get it to work sometimes. ;)
Wish you would have left a link to it, the search isn't giving me any matches...

since your using Q3A for benching ,.,,,

seta maxfps 125
seta com_maxFPS 125

seta r_displayrefresh 120
seta r_finish 0

you need BOTH these set to cap out at 125

set BOTH to 0 to see Full FPS

_____ Edit _______

Hope you didnt reinstall because you Q3A wasn't set up properly.
Let me know if you need more info.
(cuz theres alot more settings to use to ensure a solid 125 cap)

ooo ... just noticed ... my post number is 999

Hey thanks for the reply, but I actually don't know how to bench with Q3A. I wasn't benching, it was game. And I do have my , seta com_maxFPS 125 & seta r_displayrefresh 120, but i acutally used to get 125fps with my config the way it is using a TI4600 (I was never able to figure out how to get Q3A to bench, even though I wanted to.)

1st of all! Quake3 should only be ran at 125fps locked! Any thing over that or under even 127 steady will mess up youre jumps and wether if u will lose health on some jumps! So lock it @125fps and be happy. Only reason to unlock fps to show off like i did in one of my links in my sig. BTW ebay it or return it and buy another or sell it to me.. or better ebay it and buy a nvidia or another 9800 or even better a r9700pro overclocked ;p. im crazy

I said, I have it set to com_maxFPS125... Why would I sell it, and buy another one? You think it's this very card, that is defective? It wouldn't make sense for me to get another one, if it is not going to perform any better... And if it is this card, I can't sell it, knowing that something is wrong with it. By the same token I can't fford another card, and I can't afford to sell this one for cheaper than I bought it...

I did... Details... But what does it mean?
Well, its useless if you have no score to compare to. But, if you are getting similar scores, that isolates the problem to the graphics card.

I know exactly how you feel...when something stops woking and you have absolutly no idea what went wrong. I have way too much experence with wacko problems and yes, I DO GO INSANE, its okay. I find walking away and doing something else for a day or so benificial. Or ignoring it and then one day you mess with something and it is mysteriously fixed.

I hope you can fix it, but remember....clear your mind and troubleshoot while relaxed.

Thansk for the reply, and for the willingness/effort to help. I'm sorry didn't mean to exclude it in my reply; seta maxfps 125 is in the cfg file... my CFG file is the same way I had it when the TI4600 was in there and I could get the 125FPS stable, with the TI4600. But it's still fluctuating from 80-125 some times dipping a little lower with my new Radeon 9800...

Intels you can run asynchronous and gain performance. Games run faster on AMD with it set synchronous.

Should anyone care to know the resolution to my situation:

I have now replaced my motherboard with an ABIT NF7-S and OC'ed my CPU to 200FSB x 11Multipliers, and now I'm getting somewhat consitent 125FPS. The FPS sometime dip down from time to time to 109. I guess this is considerably better than before... I'm content... I wouldn't say ecstatic; I'd be happier if it could the 125fps without ever dippin down to 109, but I'll take what I ca get...

Thanks again for the replies, and the suggestions, very much appreciated...

i had a similiar problem with my 9800 non-pro. 3dmark 2001 scores were about equal with a TI4600.....the solution came with setting the AGP Aperature size to 256, up from the default 64....check that out
