"My Super Sweet 16" on MTV makes me sick

Anyone else think this show is horrible and is another reason why we have so many spoiled, disrespectful teenagers today?

So my sister is watching MTV earlier and I go in the room to have breakfast while this show is on. The girl turning 16 is whining because she only got 1 helicopter for her and her friends instead of the 3 that she requested to her dad, and now her whole party is going to be a disaster. Are you kidding me? I'm sure MTV is over-dramatizing everything, but still why can't the kid be grateful for what she has? 😕

I think the parents are just to blame for this as well. Sure, I know you're loaded... but don't spoil your kid due to it. What's the big deal about a party for turning 16 anyways? From what I remember, the only privilege I got was being able to get my driving license. Whoooo lets have a party for that!

Please tell me none of you have had, or thrown a "sweet 16" party like the ones on this show...

/rant off

The entire point of these types of reality TV are to be so outrageous to the average persons life that they can't help but feel irritated by the situations.

I think the studios believe that type of show has staying power. I personally disagree.

This is probably the 1% of 1% of 16-year olds that go through this carnival of the absurd.

Though I agree that shows like this distort reality quite a bit.

Uhh... why would you even watch something like this? Are you a teenager yourself?

Yep. There have always been 16 year olds who are spoiled like the kids on this show.

Congratulations, by posting about your outrage on an internet message board, you are doing EXACTLY what the producers of that show want you to do. They don't make these shows to give great advice for a small home birthday party, they do it to infuriate average people like you and I so we'll complain to our friends about how horrible and out of control these kids are, so the person we complain to will watch the show, get mad, etc...

I've never watched the show. I've seen a couple previews of it, and that's enough to let me know it's trash 🙂

I dated a girl like that when I was in high school. He Family were who started Thrifty Rent a Car and were super loaded.

For her 16th birthday she had a crazy huge blow out party. He Dad rented the local amusement park during the day and then that night he rented the top floor of one of the buildings downtown for a formal dinner/dance. Her big present was a brand spanking new Porsche 911 Targa. She threw a fit because it was silver and not red.

Did you miss that part above? No i'm not a teenager and neither is my sister... but she likes to watch crap shows on MTV like this, Made, and the Real World

This show is an extreme... but it does seem to me that kids have less respect for... just about anything... these days vs when I was a kid. Wait... doesn't every generation say that? It baffles me as how these kids survive. I am always curious as how they turn out. Just listening to my teacher friends talk about it... it's no wonder teachers in the county don't last past 2yrs. That and our educational system is in shambles too...

Anything on MTV these days is pretty much guaranteed to be drivel unless proven otherwise. I'm almost glad that I don't have a TV in my dorm because most of the stuff on TV these days just isn't worth my time.

I'm with the girl. if the parents decide to buy the girl a porsche, they can't go through the trouble of at least getting the color she wants?

She originally asked for silver. I was there when she picked it out. Then someone told her she should get a red one because red was sexy. Of course she never told her parents that or I'm sure they would have found her a red one.

If she hadn't been able to suck a golf ball through a garden hose I would have never stuck with her for over a year.

"My Super Sweet 16" on MTV makes me sick

MTV itself makes me sick.

Doesn't the M stand for Music? I can't recall the last time I saw any "music" on MTV... other than maybe at their awards show.
