did you set it to home network?

sounds like it never completed setup.

had the same problem with a wifi card with a bad driver though. would go through everything but not get an IP and DNS

yeah you need to provide a bit more troubleshooting info. ipconfig, can you ping your default gateway, etc? Might be a simple as the wrong encryption key - it'll connect but won't get an IP address and thus won't surf. We def need more info from you though to help.

Make sure you also don't have a proxy setup in your browser. This is common for our associates in the office when they bring their laptops home to use. They need the proxy to connect at the office, but it's unreachable at their home.

hi im sorry I appreciate the replies

OK right after I made this thread, I deleted the driver then scanned for hardware and it worked for about an hour. It dropped me and I couldnt get online. Then I just tried right now and got online but it dropped me and I cant connect now

for some reason its just inconsistent.. I keep getting kicked out of the network, having to reconnect but nothing will happen. what do I have to do so that it stays connected?

The router is a di-634m, OS is VIsta 64 and the wifi card is d-link DWL-G520

I did ipconfig in the cmd box and it says
Wireless Lan Adaptor
Media State- Disconnected
Ethernet adapter
media state- disconnected
Tunnel adaptor
Media state disconnected
Tunnel adaptor
Media state - Disconnected

is there something special I have to do right after i install the drivers? I have no security on my router (gotta get that fixed) so I didnt have to type in any password

thanks
