I bought an LCD TV about two years ago for my bedroom. It came with a free Samsung upconverting DVD player (the DVD-1080p7). I used an optical audio cable to plug the dvd player into my Logitech z-5500 speakers. I expected to get 5.1 Digital Audio from my speakers, but all I got was 2 channel audio. I checked the settings in the DVD player to see if there was an option for 5.1 Digital audio and didn't find it. I assumed that the DVD player didn't support digital audio, especially since it was free.

Fast forward to today. While I'm watching a movie I decided to find out if my DVD player really doesn't support 5.1 digital audio. In less than one minute I found out that it actually does, and that for the past two years I've been watching movies in 2-channel audio when I could've make a small change in the setup screen to enjoy true 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio.

I need a beer. My geek-status is at its lowest level ever. :(

You poser. How dare you pretend to know what you're talking about. Coming to these forums for two years with such arrogance.

However, since this place is full of love and forgiveness, we accept your apLOLogy.

Only thing I realized is that I've known that all DVD players with digital out support 5.1 for more than 10 years! Yikes, I feel old :(

Yes I do. I've got a degree in Computer Science. I build computers and fix them. I like Anime. Plus, I wear a flash drive around my neck.

So you must live in your mom's basement then too right? That's the ultimate status of Geekdom.
