I am not pale like irish people.
I have brown hair and eyes, and I'm white but not too much, and if I go to sea in hotter places, I don't need much sun protection, I just have to pay attention the first days, I get dark easy enough.
I'm whiter than southern italians, but darker than german people.

My dad is irish white...my mom is half spanish...and somehow I got somewhat olive skin (less than my mom...but I'm not as white as my Dad). My wife is pretty white (all English decent). I'm not holding out for my kids.

A friend of mine who's Chinese told me a funny story about being lathered in geisha makeup at a wedding over there. She had been on vacation from the tropics and they thought she was too tanned. My girlfriend, who is also Chinese, doesn't like to get tanned. She doesn't go out of the way to avoid the sun or anything.

My wife (who is chinese) used to really like to tan in the summer. She would get quite dark. Her grandmother used to get mad and call her a chinese name that was the equivalent of the "N" word and tell her to stay out of the sun.
