Well, more of an olive complexion really. He gets this from his Mom, she's Italian. At least he doesn't burn easily when out in the sun. Me, on the other hand, I have to slather on the sunscreen on a cloudy day. I'm whitey mcwhiteness.

my dad's from iran, my mom's from the united states (white with blonde hair).

i'm olive complected, as well, and don't sunburn easily whatsoever. i never use sunscreen (vit d ftw).

it's great being darker than white people.

Cuz I've been hearing the exact opposite for decades.
Mostly from people darker than white people.

I like how white people tan to be darker and dark people use lighteners to be more white.. lol

I'm pretty sure white people just tan... I've never heard of dark people use lighteners (extensively, like white people use tanning salons and stuff).

Both are fucking carcinogenic.

But being pale white is an extreme turnoff... not a healthy look.

I'm not super dark but do tan well enough and am usually brownish even in winter. Generally it takes quite a bit to sun burn me, as in many hours on the beach. Kinda nice not to have to worry about it too much. ^_^

I don't tan at all. When I used to surf a lot I'd get pretty dark but I can burn easily so I ALWAYS use sun block when I am going to be outside for a while. Odd thing is, my wife likes to sit out in the sun and tan. She doesn't do it often but she can get DARK!!!

I only mentioned it because we took my son and a friend of his to the pool today and he has tan lines now. It was just kind of funny to see it and see his reaction to me pointing it out.

Some places like the Philippines use considerably lighter-complected makeup in an effort to look more "western." It's pretty weird.

india, too. it's not to look more western, though. it's because, historically, lighter-skinned indians made up the higher castes (royalty, etc)... the darker indians made up lower castes (pariahs, etc).

I sunburn too easily. I actually have to avoid sunlight unless I want to be in pain for a couple weeks. Though if I just go ahead and get sunburned then I'm usually good for the summer. In the past few years we have not gotten enough sun for me to actually get a sunburn. It takes about 15 minutes of non stop sunlight for me to sunburn completely.
