My SLI rig is up and running, finally.

After some trouble, I got my new SLI machine running. Can anyone recommend some stress tests and benchmarking software? I would like to test the maximum abilities and stability of this rig.
Also, the CPU fan that came with the processor is too loud for me. Does anyone know of any "quiet" liquid cooling for both the CPU and the 2 video cards?
The MB bios doesn't seem to have all the features I am used too, like "boot up floppy seek" for example. Is their another key to press in the bios that will open up more choices?
Check out my specs and tell me if better Ram would make a noticable improvement or any other suggestions you my have. Thank you.

New:

2 BFG's 7800 GTX OC.
MSI K8N NEO 4 SLI PLATINUM.
AMD FX 55 CPU.
COOLER MASTER CMSTACKER CASE.

Used from old system:

2 STICKS OCZ EL DUAL CHANNEL 512MG 2-3-2-5.
2 WESTERN DIGITAL RAPTERS 10000RPM SATA.

benchmarks?? screw benchmarks, start playing games.

🙂

I agree. I did run 3D Mark 2005 a few times, but only to test the stability of the system. Time spent benchmaring is time wasted that I could be spending playing some games 🙂

Congrats. Looks like a nice system. I agree about the fan of the Geforce 7800GTX though. I plan on getting the Artic NV Silencer Rev3 when it comes out on Ocober 15:

I did some modification of my system this past weekend and man, if the card fan is not running, my system's components are almost silent. 🙂

No  for DFI? I'm using an MSI now and its awesome, but when I switch to a system of that callibur you can bet your ____ I'll be using a lan party board. 🙂

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault played quite well with all the settings turned all the way up.
Very satisfying gaming experience.

Prime95 is running as I write this. Noticing CPU temps are rising from 38 to 44 right now.

The NV Silencer looks promising but liquid cooling looks more fun to install, if such cooling for all the CPU and 2 video cards exist. Anybody?

Question to wkinney: How do post pictures? I would gladly show off my system.

Yes, I earn and pay for everything I buy.

Question to johnnqq: What case would you recommend? I am not happy with how difficult
all my stuff was to install because of this case but it was very large, readily available, and good looking too.

Never been to a lan party but I will try anything twice. Can somebody post me a website that has schedules for such a thing and well as operational questions. What is different about my MSI board and a lan party board?

Thanks for all the responses.

memtest and prime95 is mandatory, its better worrying about stability than performance.

run each 24hrs.

also, you may want to change your ram to 2x1GB and not worry about the timings, get some value ram (ocz) and you will be fine.

other than that, looks good.

make sure you are backing up your data as i am sure you are running a striping raid...

dude u got a fx-55! i don't know if you're on a budget or not, but you can drop down to a 4000 SD and go crazy on cooling and the case. i'm pretty sure the 4000 and the fx-55 are basically the same thing or at least within 1-2% in performance

I do hope your monitor does some crazy resolutions, or that SLI is a pure waste.

You should have 2 GB of RAM & one 7800GTX.

My monitor is a viewsonic P95f+. It's highest resolution is 2048 by 1536.
I believe I will double my RAM and I will run SuperPI 32M later this evening.
Repeat question: How do I post pictures?

cougratulations on your machine, but you spelled RAPTOR RAPTER 😛 😀

You seriously need to get an LCD (IMHO), the flicker from CRT's makes me nausious at 85hz, how can you stand it at 68? 2048x1536 would look pretty small I think on a 18 inch screen. You could buy two of the 30" apple cinema displays 😀 (not four because they need dual-link DVI, not dual dvi as in two DVI ports, but Dual-Link DVI, your 7800GTX's have 1 dual-link DVI port on each card). But in all seriousness, CRT's simply lack the prescision that a good DVI LCD will give you, and I do think you should at least get a cheap LCD for text reading (for the clarity), and keep your CRT for gaming (for the high resolution), then, get a high resolution LCD when you have the money (Dell 2005FPW, Dell 2405FPW, or Apple 30" cinema). Congratulations.

EDIT: oh yeah, you will have a HUGE performance increase if you upgrade from 1 gb to 2 gb of ram.

I am holding out for a new LCD monitor from Acer that has a 6ms response time. I believe it will be on the market before the end of the year.
I never thought about the refresh rate when it come to playing games. Sometimes I do get a headache from playing games with my new system. Could that be because the refresh rate is so low?
I just ordered new ram and I will try to post some pics tonight. Thanks.

run your games at 1600x1200 and set the refresh rate for 87Hz, which is what i would recommend. you wont be fully utilizing your gpus but @ the max resolutiion of your monitor you can only do 68Hz, which you eyes can probably see even though you may not and be causing the headaches.

don't wait for a 6ms lcd, the current 8ms-12ms are awesome, i know a lot of people on here like the dell 2405. no reason to wait, but since dell always has coupons and deals, look around and get a smokin' deal on it.

i got a two eVGA 7800GT's running in SLI attached to dual Dell 2405fpw. when i'm gaming, i put it in SLI mode otherwise i'm doing dual 1920x1200 resolution. it's awesome, but i think the better price point would be to get two 2005fpw... you can get one for under $500 with coupons! also, seems like lots of games only go upto 1600x1200 which is a waste on the 2405fpw. for example, i can't get BF2 to run higher than 1600x1200.

you're right about the noise and heat. i'm looking into water cooling too. i'm looking at the Thermalake stuff. anyone have a BigWater SE with 2 video cards in a Lian-Li V1000? feedback for someone new to water cooling?

hmm... maybe i should do a post on my recent dream system build. was quite an experience. Built 3 PCs... 1 main, 1 server, 1 mythtv server.

quick blurb on my main PC...

AMD X2 3800+
eVGA nForce4 SLI momboard
2 GB Corsair XMS
2xeVGA 7800GT
3xMaxtor 300GB SATA 16MB cache
Lian-Li V1000
Seasonic S12 600
dual Dell 2405fpw

wonder how the anandtech benches show 1920x1440....

The dell 2045 is a wide screen monitor. How do games play on it? Is it possible a game will cover the entire screen like a DVD movie.

when i play BF2 at 1600x1200, the game covers the entire screen... no black borders at all. response is decent too... i don't see any ghosting. anyone with dual 7800GTX should have a moniter (or two) to give the video cards a challenge. 🙂
