Is there any mold inside the jar? If not, enjoy...

(is it still "oily?" Sometimes it will dry out and get "pasty.")

This.

It does NOT say "expires" ... it says "Best if used by" ...

This means the taste/texture/consistency may change... but its still edible.

It's not an expiration date, but most milk jugs say best by (insert date 2 weeks in future). You wanna try tasting milk 2 months down the road? It's not expiration right?

Heh.

Certain things don't get that bad. Soda, preservatives, sauces, etc.... a lot of those things are too sweet/sour/whatever to even rot that quickly.

As a bachelor, I ate all kinds of expired food and it never killed me. :awe:

Now that I am married, that is no longer allowed.

I ate some seriously expired Skippy once; I got a nice case of food poisioning. ON the plus side, I did lose like 7 pounds over the next few days. If it expired two years ago, I'd throw it away. Is this a new, unopened jar? You might be OK then, but if it was opened two years ago? Ewwwwwwwww! PB&J with a side of salmonella.

Ok, i have to ask. If the jar was opened during the two year time, why has it taken you two years to eat a single jar of tasty peanut-butter?

Maybe it is just because i love peanut-butter, but a jar will not last more than a month around me alone. In my families home, the big jars would only last about two-three weeks.

LOL...I live with my gf now. Anything that shows the slight evidence of being old gets thrown away. It has been the source of numerous arguments. :D

Milk doesn't have an Expiration Date.. OR a Best By date....

Milk has a SELL BY date

Yogurt and salad dressing are two examples of things I used to eat all the time after their date. For yogurt, if it was a month or so "expired," it was fine. For salad dressing, I had dressing years beyond the date and still ate it. It was fine. :D

PB? Yeah, I ate it after it was very old, maybe even a couple of years beyond the date. About the only line I would draw was with meat or milk.

Speaking of Skippy Peanut Butter, I was cleaning out my grandmother's pantry for her and I found a jar of honeyroasted skippy smooth peanut butter that was 17 years old, still sealed and unopened. I was not brave enough to open it.

They made honey-roasted Skippy? Mhh that sounds good. I imagine the honey and peanut butter separated by now, and underneath all that honey goodness is a new small ecosystem of single-cell organisms.

But how can you have stuff like that still sitting around for that long? I buy enough food for a week. Nothing expires.

I wouldn't eat expired peanut butter. I think I've known a few people who have gotten pretty sick from it.

Haha yes, it has taken me this long. I probably eat peanut butter (on sandwiches, cookies, etc...) maybe 1x every couple weeks
