My sis has a bug that is deleting random pics and mp3's....

So instead of asking me to help fix it, she decided to go at it on her own. She decided to delete the files that she didn't know what they were in order to get rid of the virus.

She deleted a shit ton of dll's. I mean a lot. So everytime I try to run something, it tells me a dll is missing. Its times like this that I miss having beer to aid me through this crap. I wonder if cake will have the same calming effect?

simple AV + SRP + decent LSC + a nice dress so she can go clubbing, get pregant by some idiot, and be too busy worrying over how she fvked up her life to ever bother with computers.

I remember my first crack at WIN3.1 when I had never touched a computer before. I needed harddrive space so I ventured into DOS and started deleting shit including files that didn't really look like files... blah.dl_ and the like... eventually nothing really worked and we brought it back to the store... man were they not happy...

Its not a virus. Its her roommate or brother getting overzealous while trying to delete all remaining vestiges of transsexual Afghani goat porn.

Fixed.

Oh, and the cake is a lie. You know that! 😉

Maybe you sis has pictures she didn't want you seeing if ya know what I mean schwing schwing

Repair windows with the original install disk, it should get it back into working order. Then set up the limited account and enable remote connections for when you aren't home but near a computer.

Running XP? Vista would have fixed those DLL problems automatically.

system restore... should work 90% of the time.
if it doesn't work, then use repair windows.

I tried system restore last night. Nothing.
I searched all files for "fire" which was one file name that I knew for sure was on there...nothing. I scanned for malware, ran spybot and adaware, ran hijackthis, did a full virus scan after updating def's....nothing. I checked the recycle bin to make sure they weren't there and there was still stuff in there from a couple weeks ago, so I don't think they got deleted on accident.

Its weird...I will either figure it out or reinstall windows. Since its a dell, there is no windows disc to do a repair...at least I don't think. Everything is on the HD.

For Dells, do a <Ctrl> <F11> when you see the dell.com blue bar on startup. Should launch the Symantec Ghost software so you can restore it to the orginal factory build.
