Okay...full recap so i don't leave much out:
i install seti, and only allow it to run as a screen saver while i'm away or over night, since i fear it'd lag me when playing CS or games like that...i decide to let it run 100% of the time, coincidentally about the same time i bought a new stick of ram......lockups started occuring...i immediatly suspected the ram, since seti runs fine on my athlon system minimized....running checks of ram and taking it out and switching slots and such...no effect....so i start thinking about sytem temps, i know that seti loads my cpu and it'll get hotter....so i close seti and the freezings stop..WOAH okay, so i go and buy some arctic sliver and cut a blowhole in the top of my case, slap a 120mm on the side and there we go, that should help with cooling a bit...so i bring seti back up minimzed, still freezes, tell it not to, let it just sit there....works fine and dandy....that's how i came to this conclusion...and no, it doesn't lock up while maximized, at least not on SETI's fault...it's going now and has been for the past 9 hours or so(yes, it REALLY makes it take a lot longer maximized, my athlon finishes units in 9 hours)...but with it running 100% of times it locks up after as soon as 20 minutes of normal use(checking mail, listening to mp3s), and no more than an hour passes.... my cpu temps are about 36 load, and 30 idle....which is why i don't suspect that, my mobo temp reports 27, yes my heatsink is on there fine, checked it when i put my ASII on there.... nope, not on team anandtech.....why, is that "standard" for 'em?
