My school just issued a lockdown....

Apparently there's a murderer loose around the vicinity of my school, so all people are instructed to stay in their classrooms until further notice. I was (am) in the library at the time, so I get to stay on a computer. Hopefully this means I wont have to present my project today 😀 Did anyone else ever go through something like this? how long do they last?

once we werent allowed to leave the school building cause a bear was loose in the area...but we still had to go to our classes cause the bear wasnt about to break in

haha lock downs are so stupid. When columbine (sp?) happened we went over lock down procedures. They consisted of everyone going class and the teacher locking the door. The guidance counseler came into our class to explain how this was to solve problems if a gunman/gunwomen came into our school. Then one kid asked "Well, what happens if they kick the door in or shoot the door knob off, how is the lockdown gonna help us", which is what everyone else was thinking as well. And the GC says "you have been watching too many movies. Stuff like that doesn't happen." When she said that i was like, wtf?!

I had to stay in class a couple years ago cause there was no power

A car ran into a transformer somewhere and knocked out power for half the city.

I was in Spanish class :frown:

Only lockdowns we ever had when I was in high school was when they brought the drug-sniffing dogs in.
*sigh* I guess the early 90's were a simpler time when we didn't have to worry about people shooting up everyone in the school.
BTW - can't the murderer just go into one of the classrooms and kill you guys? Where do you go to school anyway? That's just lame.

In your case it'll probably last until they find the guy or otherwise determine that the area is "safe".

Yzzim, that was really stupid that they did that for a power outage. Back in HS, we lost power one day because a squirrel crawled into a transformer and shorted it out. The solution was to end school and send everyone home early.

my school used to have the principal or someone like that get on the intercom and say "dr. willis is in the building" when we did lockdowns. THey were done every month or two when drug dogs came in or if something like that happened. everyone knew exactly what it meant so it was always just a big joke.

I guess the mindset is "let's do something, so we can say we've done something." Then again, contingency planning is difficult and usually expensive. Not something school administrators are known for being fond of.

They didn't tell us much, only that they don't know exactly where he is and that going outside would most likely be a risk. The library doors are open, anybody can come in. Maybe i should be more worried about this than I am...:Q

Its a high school in the Greater Toronto Area, btw

<< We can't stop here, this is bat country... >>

Hot damn! I never rode in a convertible before! 😀

Ahh, Canada - that explains it. You guys just aren't used to having murderers around. In the US, most of our city schools would be on lockdown all the time 😉

lol,

that is so true

I had a lockdown happen at a place I used to work. I worked the swing shift, and some dude had been fired and threatened to come back and get revenge. So they locked all the doors, and made us stay inside the whole night.

Yeah, it's safer on the street with a murderer on the loose than in a school. Just think of all the weapons

That's what I thought too. But there wouldn't have been much to do at home with no power. So sitting in class talking with friends wasn't that bad I suppose :\

I only remember one lockdown in High School, when a riot broke out during one of the lunch periods. It was actually just a couple groups pushing and shoving at each other...there were no overturned cars etc.

We all had to stay in whatever room we were in when the announcement was made. I ended up spending 3 hours in the computer lab. Unfortunately it was pre-internet so I had to do homework, which was OK at the time.

They even let us out early that day...15 minutes early.

The funny thing was I didn't really know what was going on until the bus ride home, when on of my friends filled me in.

Other than that, there were a couple of bomb threats in college, but those were evacuations not lockdowns.

Our school let us out even when there was a ride by shooting. You may ask what is a ride-by shooting? Its when someone is stupid enough to ride by on a bike and shoot someone.

when i was in high school, it seems like we always have some sort of incident every year. my freshman year, some psychotic came to school with gun and held the whole classroom hostage. sophomore year, some dude did a drive by shooting. junior year, some dude got stabbed. senior year, some sick rapist on the loose (he raped a 70-year old woman, that sick bastard) on school property.
