if its playing 4.1 eax in games and everything looks ok in the device manager I think the cd skipping prob may be in the cd rom, not the sound card. is the cd set to dma mode in device manager? also the checkmark for digital audio extraction is set?

I know its the drivers for it because its only those drivers that give me problems. When I let Windows install its old crusty drivers it works on CDs but cant do 4.1 or eax. For some reason every other driver I try says it cant find a Creative Soundcard on my computer. Also I just noticed that the OP's card was black PCB. Mine is Green. This is getting aggravating. I'd just junk this thing and get an Audigy, but Mom wont let me buy any computer parts. (Part of the reason I'm stuck with this stupid GeForce 4 MX 420)

save money and buy it yourself? a sound card is like $20 anyway.

I just said I can't. I've got $200 saved. My mom still doesn't want me "wasting" it on computer parts. She believe that a computer is an educational tool not meant for playing games. And she consistently chastises me for playing them. Thats why I have to try to preserve this thing. Its funny, because if a comp was only for educational purposes, we could all sit here on Pentium 186s running the first verion of DOS

oh yea...and that sound card.....OUCH. i'd rather give it to the goodwill or something than break a piece of equipment like that.

You don't understand, it's not useable!

I busted this stupid card because you cannot find any downloadable working drivers anywhere on the internet. What use is that? Creative outright DOES NOT support the CT4830 as it was not suppose to come to North America, they got leaked here apparently, and they pulled all support for the CT4830, so you can't find drivers for it any where. Sure a regular SB Live! Value would have been fine, but this freak card is completely unsupported and useless to anyone. The card detects fine in my system and am confident that with drivers, it would have worked. However, I think this is the correct demise for this worthless piece of crap!
