You know you're a redneck when your porch collapses and more than 5 dogs die.

I had a black room mate for a while. My dad is one of those red-necky sorts (read scared of black people) and he used to treat him weird. Nate was one of the best guys I've ever known of any race. It used to bother him, but eventually we had some fun with it. That is, once I talked to him and convinced him that it was my dad's problem and not his.

Well, I agree on one level but the problem is it's so pervasive in the police department. The town I grew up in was profiled on 60 Minutes as being one of the most prejudiced parts of the country. They filmed "In the Heat of the Night" not too far away (at least parts of it). I'd say the department as a whole has some "issues", and to really make a difference the focus should be to convert the room mate. Just remember, the root of all prejudism is fear and ignorance, and go from there :p. But seriously, if you have any black friends maybe your room mate would benefit by getting to know them as human beings and not as racial slurs.

Do you people actually expect anyone to believe that you, yourselves havnt used a racist term EVER? Nobody needs your sympathetic attitude, or false outrage just so you can get a self serving ego boost. You never hear people react like this when you hear someone use "fat" , "ugly" or some other epithet. But as soon as somebody opens there mouth with a racial slur all you(you know who you are)white appologists come rushing to minorities with hugs and kisses, as if you have some deep seeded guilt that you must cleanse yourself of. Stop perpetuating racism by shining the light on every single utterance of a racial slur. Spare us the patronizing attitude.

Oooh! Sounds like someone is fat and ugly. I'm sorry :p.

Actually, I have told people to shut up when they use those terms. Not just small guys either, but big scary guys.

I remember this girl in college who had this really bad scar. One day this guy was messing with her, so I went up to her and spent some time talking to her. We got to be pretty decent friends. I think the lesson is, people suck. All we can influence is ourselves.

Sometimes it's just really striking how inexperienced people are on the net. Go out and have some life experiences. Shoo!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Me personally, I think blacks are more racist than whites.

Why even call someone African American? That implies that they're not real Americans. Well are they? Why can't Americans just be called Americans without the description? I don't hear the phrase "European Americans" everyday, but I always hear African Americans, Asian Americans, etc. That's all bull. Just being racist towards non whites I think.

I hear Americans calling themselves Italian and Irish all the time.

And what the hell is so cool about being Irish? How come everyone I meet is at least "1/4 Irish". I don't see how 3rd or 4th generation "Irish" descendants can claim stake in any Irish heritage. Same goes for any "Italians, Germans, Dutch" people out there...oh..and the classic "Well im 1/4 Native American." Thats the worst brand of person..they expect you to feel sorry for their ancestors or something, even though they are probably just lying.

Isn't this what blacks do? I think it's funny how when a black person feels they are being prejudiced against they seem to bring up their ancestors being slaves and all and how they can never catch a break. Give me a fuvking break! The only thing blacks know about slavery and not catching a break is what they 'hear' and what they read in books because it damn sure hasn't happened to them. And maybe according to this story, since he is an officer, it's a fact that most crimes are committed by black people. Like it or not, this is a fact. Maybe this is why the officer has views like this.

Good luck finding a completely unbiased person, much less about a million of them that would work for the crappy pay and lousy attitude from people.

The world isn't the candy coated dreamland that the cartoons told you it is. People are inherently xenophobic. If you never see a black or white person for most of your childhood, a black person will be weird.

I thought my black GI Joe was wearing a mask. Then my parents explained that there were lots of different colors of people. I thought it was weird.

No one asked for my opinion, but here it is:

None of you have ever been completely tolerant. You've slipped, probably on many more occasions that you'd like to admit. It's alright, everyone has... But please don't sit there and act like you're the freaking perfect person so that you can avoid being flamed by other people who don't want to be flamed by you for being honest.

How dare they show a little pride in their ethnic heritage! If i had my way i'd have all of them...well, you get the drift.

prvteye2003 don't say stuff like that, you're gonna get this post locked.

I agree with feralkid, it's just a pride issue. And at this point in time, I'd much rather have pride in my italian heritage (no matter how fascist they are/were) than pride in america. Dubya is teh sucks!
