I really don't have it out for the guy. I may disagree with his stance on damn near everything, but he's entitled. What he needs to learn, however, is some humility. We all need to be able to laugh at ourselves and be able to see our own shortcomings, so that we are not so surprised and infuriated when others point them out.

If I didn't have thick skin, I wouldn't still be here. I have my fair share of shortcomings as do all of you, and chuckle at them when they're harmlessly pointed out. Yes, I'm humble. Threads like these can get easily blown out of proportion with the general population believing and amplifying whatever biased stuff they see from others. Put yourself in my shoes today if you believed in standing up for the things I do- how would you feel? I'm no George Kastanza, so I don't really care if there's a couple people or half of everyone who don't like me- you can't please everyone, so tough noogies- but it's discouraging when everyone does.

Well, unless you can somehow access the ATOT database and delete your posts. After all, you wrote that you made a mental (hate?) list; that's a bit drastic for someone who claims to be amused.
I'm sure you have friends, but it's not completely illogical to assume that you don't. People that have friends have learned to accept and forgive the flaws of others. You could try and work out an agreement with your roommate, or you can even try moving out. (Don't tell me there's no place to go. I was literally sleeping on my friend's floor for a few weeks of school one year, but I still found housing in the overcrowded/expensive berkeley area.) But your general attitude seems to be "I'm a senior, I've been here longer, I'm right, and I shouldn't have to accomodate him." Nice people do good things, not because they have to but, because they are considerate of others. You claim to be a nice guy, yet you show little consideration (initially anyways) for the havoc you would wreck upon your roommate's life, even though his actions do not affect you greatly. And to think, he had the consideration to not smoke in your dorm. Imagine how you would feel if a copyright zealot was to report you to the RIAA...

Some advice, take it with a grain of salt if you will. For the several years that I've been a part of ATOT, I have seen people like you come and go, and it seems there is a formula to it. What you need to realize is that we are all from backgrounds so vastly different, that while in your own eyes you are a good, humble, well intentioned person with moral beliefs and behavior, that may not be the image you project to everyone else. I'm not making a case for relativism, all I'm saying is that you need to understand that YOUR viewpoint is not the only way, nor the absolutely correct way, nor the modus operandi of choice for the majority of others on this board. If you could learn to respect that, then we could learn to respect you.
