My room mates won't let me make it hotter than 65* F

Heh... It sounds like your circulation is pretty poor if you're still cold with all that crap on you.
 
Anything over 65 and I'd be melting. 60 is fine for me in the winter with central air. Get some exercise maybe, if your metabolism is really low because (like many ATers) you don't eat anything and weigh 90 pounds, that could explain half of it, the absence of bodyfat would be the other half.
 
72°F is considered room temp.
I'm personally used to 75-80F, given that I live in so cal, with my computer constantly heating up the room and mom not wanting to turn the AC on to save on electricity bills.
65 would be fucking cold for me.
Your body generates a lot less heat when you're sleeping too.
The camping argument is ridiculous. You don't go camping everyday. you're supposed to tough out the lack of luxuries when going camping.

If the vent is directly blowing on to the AC, it can easily go under 60F
I personally have sensitive lungs and 65F would definitely be making me cough.
 
I keep my AC at almost 80, and sleep with a fan during most of the summer months. During the cooler months, I set the heat at about 60 and use extra blankets.

Your easiest solution is to close the vent in your room or seal it somehow. You shouldn't be having problem sleeping with a 65^F temp though, thats a very nice sleeping temperature, even with my blood thinned out from the Phoenix summer.
 
I prefer it in the 60's....However, my parents are from Northern Indiana, so I am used to the cold. In school I would wear shorts until it started snowing (since the classrooms were so damn warm). Ideally, I would keep the thermostat at 65, however, I keep it about 73 in the summer and 67 in the winter to be green. Just be glad you have a thermostat in your dorm....I had steam (radiator) heat which was ALWAYS on. I always find it funny that Floridians pull out the fur coats at 60! The first apt I lived in the roommate would keep the thermostat set at 80 then have a small server farm in his room...and was STILL cold! Just tell your roommates that your a snake and constantly need to be warm to promote movement 😉

Way to destroy school property! Prepare to feel your roommates wrath when you have to split the bill to fix it.

 
I put the "heat" at 63* at night. It bumps up to 67* when I am home in the evening.

I can't sleep when it is too warm.

Alright! I combined these ideas into ONE!

I set the thermostat to 72. Then, I took apart the assembly and super glued the variable resistor (temperature control) to its current position. Then, I clipped off the stem on the plastic dial, turned it a few degrees, then super glued it back on. Once everything was assembled again, the dial falls into place at what looks like 65 degrees, but the resistor is actually "set" for 72 degrees. Even better, if they try to set it to a different temperature, it just snaps back to "65", which is actually 72.

Thank you ATOT, you have given me ideas to pwn my room mates. Aside from the thermostat thing, they actually are huge jerks, so I don't feel bad.

Are you kidding me? 65 is PERFECT for sleeping. Get a couple blankets or something, it's impossible for me to sleep in a room that's too warm.
 
you are all pussies. my face gets cold at 65? really? its too hot, its too cold... blah blah blah

i keep the thermostat at 63 to save energy and do not have AC. cold starts at about 40 degrees when the heat decides to stop working on a windy winter day, warm is the week or so every summer that its 90 degrees.

the only time i have ever wore a balaclava to sleep is when camping and it hit about 30 at night.

i give thema few days before they call to haveit looked at. then they will figure out what happened. you can get into trouble for breaking the colleges property.

 
I can tell most of you live at home still with these stupid recommendations.

Simple thing is move out or get blankets, shut your vent, etc.

I am hoping the OP is not actually sleeping with his roomates.
 
I agree, 65 is cold for a room temp. Pople that are complaining that the op is a wuss don't seem to understand that your body accustoms itself to a hot climate, and after thatit becomes harder to deal with the cold. (works the same way in reverse also)

What state are you in now, and where are your roomies from? Sounds like they're northerners to me... Seriously, A/C at 65F? In TX you'd have a $500 electric bill each month for 1/2 the year.

Yeah 65 is definitely cold A/C. I can sleep fine anywhere from 50-78F. It's cheaper to add more blankets than jack up the A/C. But it doesn't really matter in the dorm. My brother lived in a dorm where 4 rooms share a common A/C - in the 3 rooms he lived in the thermostat was broken every time, always in the coldest position. The maintenance people don't really care, if it's exposed, it'll be fucked with by someone.
 
I wish I could have it be 65f. My room temp right now is 76.3f. My window AC is set at 75, any lower and it overheats.

Agreed.
People in this thread are probably similar to his roommates and are too thickheaded/moronic to understand this simple fact that not everyone may be like them, nor does it mean is someone is a skinny inactive nerd just because they find 65F cold.
 
Close the vent. If the vent doesn't close, there are covers you can get to help restrict the flow. If you have a window, crack that open (if its warmer out). Keep your computer on if you have one.
 
That's ridiculous. Can't sleep when it's 65F? I just turned my heat on today as it was 48F outside - From 7AM - 12, it is set to be at 69F, from 12-445, it's set at 64F (since most of my roommates will be on campus), from 445-1145PM, it goes back up to 69, and from 1145PM to 7AM, it's set at 62F.
