My Rock Band guitar's...

Nah but my strum bar died like everyone elses. The new one I got works perfect. It has magnets instead of those other crap switches.

Did they send you a guitar first, before you sent yours in? I want to get a new one (I have one with switches, and I miss notes ...), but I still want to be able to play ...

They will send you it first if you give them a credit card to put a 100 dollar or so hold on. I just sent mine first since I had GH guitars to use.

It's 125 now a days. I think they raised it after people started sending in bogus request just to get a second guitar.
I've got my replacement waiting for me at home.

The strum bar was the culprit with mine.

I had it replaced and had them ship first. The replacement guitar came in two days. I was able to track my returned guitar online and shortly after it got there the hold was removed.

I have to say that my new guitar is awesome. The new gen Strat>the GH3 LP imo. Alot of people disagree with me though.

I can actually slide on the strat.

My first RB guitar had a wrongly installed membrane in the green key which I fixed buy opening the fret. Then of course the strum just completely collapsed ten minutes into use. Went onling and gavem my CC# and got the new guitar in 1.5 days. Sent the old one back and love the new one. Now I cant go back to the explorer model cuz its just so small. I let others use it when I tour.

I just had to do the RMA thing with mine, bought game a little over a week ago. 🙁 Down strum went out as I guess is usual from all the comments online. I'm guessing mine was one of the first wave since the store I got it from only had 1 for the PS3 and I ended up getting it out of the back of the store. (they threw out a ton of PS2 ones on the floor.. urgh)

So, being PS3 is there no other guitar I could currently use? Replacement will be here soon but I'd like a 2nd guitar at some point and I hear the GH3 one doesn't play well with Rockband. Only thing good that came out of this is I am learning to play left handed a bit. 🙂

(drums still work, that'll keep me happy... and the neighbors annoyed)

No, Activision (GH publisher) has blocked a patch that Harmonix (RB developer) created that would allow GH guitars to work with Rock Band. Harmonix has publicly stated that they will work with anyone to allow all guitars to work in all games. Activision feels they should be financially compensated for allowing their guitars to work with other games. I say Activision can go suck an egg.

EDIT: But individual RB instruments should be here within a few months now. I think they originally said January, but since we haven't heard anything definite, I wouldn't put money on it.

so how do you know if the strum bar is FUBARED? does it physically go limp? or do you just miss a few notes here and there?

for most it doesn't register down strums well

Yea, after about 3-4 hours of play my original guitar would sometimes double strum or not register at all. It was really throwing me off, because it was after those 3-4 hours that I made it into the hardest songs on Expert so I thought I was just having a really tough time with the songs, but then I switched to the GH3 Les Paul and it was definitely the RB guitar's fault.

I swapped out my Rockband guitar because I couldn't trigger overdrive without violently shaking the damn thing. Sometimes I would be standing there completely still and it would trigger.

My replacement guitar is much better.

First of all, how do you know if you have the one with the crappy strum bar other than waiting for it to break. And also, Rage187: i have the same problem but when i go to the support website it doesnt have a questionare thing about that so i dont know if i should send it in or not. Can anyone help shed some light on this?
Thanks.

I would like to know if I need to send mine in as well. Maybe there is a model number on the back of the old guitars that we could distinguish between the ones that broke and such?

Good to hear that $170 buys you faulty, poorly-tested equipment these days.

My reason why I am refusing to buy one now. I am going to wait until all the kinks are worked out of hardware.

My strum bar is going limp also. It basically hangs down at a 45 degree angle instead of perpendicular to the body. On expert, it seems to miss every so many strums on the faster sections. I also have to fling it around to get overdrive to activate. My brother has the GH3 LP and it seemed to activiate anytime I gave it a tilt. Is this grounds for a replacement?

Besides that, I love the game and can spend hours trying to perfect each song.

one of the questions is a blanket statement. Something like "My guitar is broken"; I used that.

One quick and dirty way I noticed the double strumming was on the song list. If I would (moderately) strum up and down, the highlighted song would slowly move down the list... so each move down was registering more than once compared to the exact same action upwards. At least that's the best way I could explain it to others. 🙂

To update my situation, I was still playing with the damaged guitar controller and the whammy bar broke tonight. Tomorrow I hope the replacement is here. I treat the gear very, very well and just hope the new gear is constructed better. Having never played any GH or similar game before, I really am enjoying the entire game.

Do they have a replacement program in place for the drums similar to the guitar? My rock band package shows up this week or early next and I'd hate for the drums not to work; it's what I'm looking forward to most.

Yes, you can put in an advanced RMA for the drums.
