This, and every other store really. Target is another one.

I know a lot of people have a lot of negative to say about Walmart, but they have never asked me to sign up for a "Walmart card."

And then the whole, but you'll save 15 dollars on your purchase and get this whatever for free. No, I don't need a dept store credit card for every store I visit.

Walmart asks me every damn time I'm in there, which isn't often.

The $3 savings and $1 donation are obviously a criminal racket to con the sheeple out of their money, using PLASTIC CARDS no less!

Cashier's insistence was obviously an aggressive move. If he raised voice his above that of a whisper, then he was definitely thinking of vaulting over the counter and pummeling the life out of you. Defensive stance, overpowering vocal volume and cops were definitely advised.

You got lucky OP. You gotta be more vigilant. Remember, there's probably an armed assailant around every corner.

Bought a sofa sleeper from Rooms To Go a few weeks ago.

I walked in and the 1st sales guy that came to me asked what I wanted. I said "Show me your cheapest queen size sleeper sofas" He took me straight to the cheapest one they had. I pulled out the mattress and tried it then asked to see the next level up and concluded that I liked the 1st one more comfort and looks wise and said I'll take it.

He of course asked if I want the fabric protection plan. I said no.

He asked if I wanted the mattress protection plan (they do it separate on sleeper sofas) I again said no.

I then said I'm paying cash for the cheapest couch you sell and do not want anything but the couch and delivery.

He says he understands and we go over to one of their terminals to ring up the sale and so I can give the info on where to deliver it.

My wife steps away to take a call and I have our 2.5 year old son and I'm trying to keep him entertained while waiting on this guy.

He says he's done and I come over to the terminal and he goes over the info and the cost.

Right away I say it's over $100 more than it should be with tax (I can do math!)

And he does this clearly fake act of playing dumb and says "Oh lets she why that is, you have the couch, the delivery, the sofa fabric protection and the mattress protection".

I'm starting to lose my cool at this point. I HATE with a passion bullshit sales games like this. I made a point to make it very clear I did not want that.

So he sees I'm on the brink of going postal and says "let me go get my manager to remove these from the bill" which right away I assume is total bullshit. He added it in the first place, why can he not remove it?

So he comes back with some guy and says "I couldn't find an available manager but this is my team lead Bob".

Bob then says "So my co-worker tells me you'd like to remove the protection plans from the sofa and mattress, has he explained the benefits of the protection plan?"

I wasn't having it and said to both of them I was done with being asked yet again for something I made clear I did not way. Scared Bob a bit with how angry I was getting so Bob removed the line for JUST THE MOTHER FUCKING sofa fabric protection and not the mattress protection but runs away before I see that.

I look at the screen and see its on there and said to remove it right now and finish this transaction or I'm walking out. He tries to keep the lie up and looks around and mumbles "I don't see any managers around to remove this" and good for him he knew I'd likely murder him if he walked away to get another person so says screw it and deletes the line item just like he could of done before.

He's worried looking at this point and maybe a bit scared. He's hurrying as fast as he can to finish up and wouldn't you know it the actual store manager lady walks up and ask how things are going and see's to her horror I do not have the protection plan.

She begins to ask why and I cut her off very coldly. When I get angry I talk calm and low and slow while gritting my teeth to hold back from murdering someone. She saw that clearly but still tried to start back up. I said "IF YOU ASK ME ONE MORE TIME ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT A WARRANTY OR PROTECTION I AM WALKING OUT!!" I was fucking pissed.

She literally was trembling and stunned.

She said "you don't have to get upset" in a low timid voice.

I told her clearly that these bullshit sales games and lies are to be expected for the initial attempt but when I make clear I will not and do not want their up-sells then they need to realize they are risking losing a sale that is otherwise and done deal.

She literally looked like she was going to cry and walked off.

My wife finally gets back to us and takes over with my son who I was holding this whole time and breaks the tension and we wrap up and leave.

She says as we're walking out "why did that lady look so upset?"

Every single sales person that does this shit can go to hell and deserves to not get their sale.

I was beyond to nice by sticking with the sale but just didn't have it in me to go on to another store as we'd been looking all day for a sleeper sofa.

Craigslist man. By god, why are you torturing yourself with those scamming furniture outlets.

lol everytime a cashier asks if I want to make a donation (which seems a LOT lately) I just tell them "fuck that, someone needs to donate to me..."

Usually they agree and carry on.

All the furniture in my house is from a furniture outlet store. However, I had a friend that worked there so I got it all with no hassle plus his employee discount. 🙂

You should have told her, "We're DONE here, get your manager NOW or just save the time and call the police." Then assumed a defense stance and made sure your gun was accessible.

...Do these guys get a bonus for getting people to sign up for Gold Cards? I might find myself at a GNC once every 3 years so I'm not familiar with their operation.
Almnost every place has quotas for things like that. The fact that he was willing to sign you up without you doing anything but giving him a phone number implied that he was trying to reach his quota to keep his job.
