How close to dying am I? :(

For whoever is dumb enough to think I'm lying:

Tested twice in case there was any doubt. That's the highest I've seen it, but I was walking around the store for 10 minutes before I remembered to do the test, so I guess I wasn't totally "resting". Anyway, you get the idea.

Height/weight?

My resting heart beat is in the 50's and could potentially be in the 40's again if my drive to get fit continues ;)

Generally athletes have very low resting heart beats. Better heart muscle = less beats required to pump same amount of blood. Or something like that.

Are you kidding?, low heart rates are a GOOD thing, a rate of 45bpm would be expected from someone who ahs done lots of endurance excersizes and is in really good shape. You are INCREDIBLY fortuante to have such a good heart, especially if you don't even have to run long distances to achieve that low of a heart rate. I run all the time, and still have a resting heart rate of 80bpm which is really annoying.

EDIT: just took heart rate right now, its 110bpm sitting here in front of my computer.

Dude, you're way past dead! Call your family to tell them when the funeral is and go to the mortuary STAT!

Probably a lot further than most everyone else. Actually, I think a low resting heart rate probably indicates a very healthy cardiovascular system. In any case, if you're worried about it ask "your doctor." Or you could Google heartrate or go to WebMD or a host of other medical sites.

My resting heart rate was pretty low when I was heavily into distance running. When you do a lot of stuff like that, the heart gets strong, the entire CV system is enhanced and resting heart rate is probably the simplest way to see that.

I'm at 72bpm. I am miserably (read: out of breath from running up one floor of stairs) out of shape.

The current "normal" resting heart rate according to the AHA is 60-100bpm for adults. People that are in really good shape usually have a rate that is much lower than 60. So if you're in really good health with a low resting rate, you're fine, nothing to worry about. :)

Resting? That's not good...:(

yea, I've always had it though. I play on a sports team in college and I work out regularly, I even ran cross country in high school. It used to freak out school nurses when they'd take my pulse, but my doctor said its not that big a deal, at least not at this point. Nothing I can do about it, so why stress over it?

"Lance Armstrong's heart is almost a third larger than that of an average man. During those rare moments when he is at rest, it beats about thirty-two times a minute?slowly enough so that a doctor who knew nothing about him would call a hospital as soon as he heard it. (When Armstrong is exerting himself, his heart rate can edge up above two hundred beats a minute.)"

well we don't know how good shape you are in, so it's tough to say. If you're an athlete that's fine. Mine is about 42 and I'm in great shape. If you're not in decent shape that could be a problem...
