My respect for AROD (other than his baseball ability) is just about at zero.

this is my opinion - u dont like it <^> . . <^>

According to ESPN Deportes, Alex Rodriguez has decided to play for the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

now this guy turns and disrespects the country that he was born in, and gave him all the millions and the opportunity to become who he is... to go play for a country in which he wasn't even born in. the guy can barely speak spanish... what a piece of sh1t in my book.

Arod was born & grew up here but he has dual-citizenship. Hmmm... just thinking about Dominican Republic's lineup: Manny Ramirez, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Vladimir Guerrero, Miguel Tejada, David Ortiz, Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Sammy Sosa... and the pitching would be decent with Pedro & Bartolo Colon. WOW. :Q

Yeah I hate that traitor Yao Ming. 😕

Yao Ming wasn't born here nor is he a US citizen.

Yes, and he plays for the Rockets.

Which has nothing to do with what we're discussing. Now if Yao had played for the US Olympic team, you might actually be onto something. Otherwise, you have no argument.

Just so you know, Arod denied these reports. He said he hasn't madeup his mind yet.

"It would be a privilege for me to represent the U.S., and it would be a privilege for me to represent the Dominican Republic," Rodriguez said after the All-Star Game. "Right now, it's in Bud Selig's hands to say what the rules are, and whatever they are, I'm going to follow."

During Monday's All-Star workouts, A-Rod told several Hispanic media outlets that he planned to represent the Dominican Republic in the event. Later in the day, he spoke with Commissioner Selig and learned that the World Baseball Classic organizers would have final say over the makeup of the rosters.

"I have to follow the rules. I wasn't aware of them when I talked [to the media]," Rodriguez said. "I have not decided anything. It's in Bud's hands right now. ... He told me that it's really in his hands and not in mine. I was corrected."

Major League Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney said that players with dual citizenship would be allowed to choose the country they will play for, adding that the World Baseball Classic will approve all rosters for the tournament.

WTF? He was asked by the Hispanic media. It's not like he called a press conference.

I don't really have a problem with it. At least he's playing.Sheffield won't play in 'something that's made up' It's not as if the US needs him. This should balance out the teams somewhat. I guess it also depends on the country. If he was Chinese and decided to play for China, then I would have a problem.. although not if he played for Taiwan.

What!!?
Thats an awfully odd arguement...

If he was chinese and decided to play for China, that should be fine.
If he was born in Taiwan, then thats different...

WTF? read what i quoted. the guy shouldn't say things to appease the media. i dont think the decision to what team he plays for calls for a press conference.

Q: Why is baseball not the American pasttime any more?

A: Because there are barely any Americans still playing.

I'm all about being the melting pot of the world, and I'm glad that people from other countries can come here and make money. However, I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't SUCK that with this gigantic country of ours, there are more people from like 3 or 4 islands in the Gulf of Mexico than there are native-born Americans playing baseball today.

If A-Rod plays for the Dominican Republic, that would really be sad. It's his choice, certainly, but it's insulting to me that he feels such a great need to connect with a country he knows nothing about. C'mon... he grew up here, he can barely speak their language, he's spent an OVERWHELMING majority of his life here, but he wants to represent them in the world Baseball Classic over us? Yeah, that's a BIG slap in the face.

He did NOT call a press conference. Have you ever seen the media crowds at an All-Star game? They probably mobbed the guy.

Yeah, I'd think that the richest baseball player in the world would at least like to play for the country that made him that way, especially being that he was born here as well.

USA is still the most represented single country in MLB(even when you don't count Puerto Rico as part of the US)...DR and Venezuela are the only 'Latin' countries with a significant number of major league players.

list of players you can sort by country of birth
