My Reset switch doesn't work ?????????

When I hook up my reset switch to my Asus motherboard and try and bootup it won't post at all. The power light and hard drive LED are steady and the three lights on the keyboard are blinking but that's as far as it goes. If I unhook the reset switch and try agian it boots up fine.

Anybody know why the reset switch isn't working right ????????????
 
Orientation does not matter for the switches.
1. double check that you have the correct header and lead.
2. Perhaps your switch is stuck in the on postion, try bouncing it a few times to be sure it works freely. If you have acess to a multimeter check the switch open closed postions. You could try swaping your power switch with the reset (connect power lead to reset header and reset lead to power header), now if the board powers up but shuts off in a few seconds the reset switch is permentaly closed. They are not hard to replace if you study the situation for a bit.

I tried it on my power switch pins and it didn't boot up at all...nothing. I then took the switch out and tested it with a ohm meter and it is stuck closed.

It seems the reset switch is meant to be open at bootup and when there is a momentary short that it reboots the computer. I found another momentary switch and tested it and it works like it should, the only problem is the switch is to big for the hole.

Guess I will have to get a drill and go to work on my case.
 
If your case happens to be Antec, just give them a call or an email, they'll drop one in the mail to you for free.
 
The power light and hard drive LED are steady

That's a classic sympton of having one or more IDE cables plugged in backward or not connected properly. Also having your slave/master configuration wrong can also cause this problem (eg you stick two master HDs on one IDE controller).

Check your cabling and your drive jumpers.
