Not sure where I'd find a replacement termsrv.dll, but I guess I'll look on my WinXP disc and if I find it on their I'll try replacing it.

The /sfc scannow thing didn't work, it says it's an unrecognized command.

Not quite willing to try a repair install. Repair installs have never worked for me, they tend to only mess things up worse. Basically a partially working Windows install becomes a computer that won't boot.

Hmm, I can't seem to find termsrv.dll on my computer. I did a search for it, but it didn't show up.

the command is sfc /scannow. As a hint, it is always "Command" then switches, done as (depending on OS/Program) /switch or -switch. Kinda like ipconfig /renew, or tcpdump -i eth0

Ok, ran sfc /scannow, it took a long time, then closed out with no dialogs or anything after it finished.

Your termsrv.dll lies in c:\WINDOWS\system32 . If you have upgraded to a service pack , from within windows there should be a servicepackfiles directory in your windows directory [c:\windows\Servicepackfiles] and you could retrieve the dll from there . The DLL is also available online on a bunch of dll hosting sites .

When you want to replace the dll

1)Go into safe mode [Press F8 when booting , go into Safe Mode]
2)Go into c:\windows\system32 and backup your current copy of termsrv.dll file
3)Replace the termsrv.dll from the servicepack / cd to the one on your c:\windows\system32
4)Also make sure that c:\windows\system32\dllcache also does not contain a copy of termsrv.dll , you can safely rename the dll file in this directory
5)Reboot and test

I have to admit that if this doesn't work you're looking at a reinstall probably

My copy of Win XP Pro came with Service Pack 2, so there's nothing in the servicepackfiles folder. I'll look online for the dll though.
And there are two termsrv.dll files, one in system32, and one in dllcache. You're saying that the dllcache one shouldn't be there?

You can safely rename it or delete it to the Trash Folder

Sorry I am just being on the safe side

Well, didn't work, looks like I'll be without remote desktop for awhile. I probably won't reinstall Windows until I build a new computer, which probably won't be until sometime next year.

Use ultra VNC, more people need to check that out

What is Ultra VNC, and does it integrate as seamlessly as Remote Desktop?
