My real Craigslist selling experience. It's a hoot

My buddy asked today how my selling on Craigslist was going. For the most part, OK. Lots of offers for under half price. A meeting with a ex-con needing a new PC. scary.. never let em come over to the crib folks. Any ideas on how to sell entire PCs without having them come over? I did take a couple of PCs to a business to sell, and that worked out OK. Taking PCs to a individual's house would be something I would not like too much.

Anyway, here's my most unusual email exchange with an interested party about a motherboard I was selling. I had a flat view picture of it, and the make and model number listed.

BUYER
Do you still have this Motherboard? Does it not have any on board video or audio drivers? I need to purchase as soon as possible. Let me know ASAP.

SELLER
Yes, I have it. You talking about the drivers on CD? I have the original driver CD for XP and Vista , BUT you can download the latest drivers from Asus which is a better thing to do.
I don't know about Windows 7 support, it may or may not work correctly with Win 7
You can get the complete specs by googling the model number.

BUYER
No, I was asking if it had things attached to the motherboard to hook a monitor up to. I also didn't see a hook up for speakers either. Does it not come with connections for those things?

SELLER
You must be new at this. Building PCs and replacing motherboards does take some knowledge. Just google the model to get a view of the I/O area where all of the hookups are.

BUYER
Sorry, I just saw that I said "drivers". I meant to say "cards". Does this have on board audio and video cards? Or does that have to be bought separately?

SELLER
it has integrated video and audio, cards are add on hardware. just google it for complete specs. Honestly, I don't think you are ready to build a PC

BUYER
I have built over 20 PCs to date. I assure you I am more than qualified I just have not had time to research this motherboard and it did not appear to have any on board audio or video when I looked at the pic you posted with your post.

If you care to actually sell this pretty outdated motherboard (that oddly enough I am needing) then I wouldn't be so quick to judge. It's bad for business.

I just went back and looked at your post. I have had a very hectic day and did not get to look at your pic that well. I did Google it as well and I did see what I needed. If you are willing to sell, I would be interested in buying it.

SELLER

anyone with any PC building experience would know to google for specs. and also know that audio ports, video ports reside in the I/O area of the board, an area you can't see from a top down view, and it's more of a hobby than a business to me

BUYER
And you assume I didn't know this? I wanted to email you as quickly as possible to make sure you didn't sell it already. I figured maybe you could share some info to help things along since I had such a busy day. That's how you sell things. I know exactly where everything is and where it goes. But I will ask, if everyone knew that, why did you only take the 1 pic? Hmm?

So, do you want to sell it so I can set it up for my kid or do you want to not sell it and continue to assume that I don't know what I am doing?

This is craigslist stupidity in a nutshell for any sale. I actually had some lady show up to buy a white chest and was baffled when I showed it to her. I asked did she even look at the pics? She ended up buying it and the accompanied desk. But I was like wtf? Seriously?

We should start one central Craigslist thread so that everyone can post their best/worst experience there.

I'd expect the seller to post more than a model number and couple of shitty pics -- pics that apparently don't even show the I/O ports on the motherboard.

2K worth of parts! I take back my last post. You are all that is man.

Somebody should post a thread about sellers that act sanctimonious when a buyer asks questions that could have been answered in their shitty ad.

OP, next time, here's how to radically shorten such a convo:

BUYER
No, I was asking if it had things attached to the motherboard to hook a monitor up to. I also didn't see a hook up for speakers either. Does it not come with connections for those things?

SELLER
Yes, it comes with those things.

I put this at the top of every ad I put on cl

"Lowballs/dumb offers ignored and questions that have answers in the ad will not be answered, I will tell you to read the ad."

I also save people's numbers in my contacts with a name as a description of them if they are bad enough so I remember. So if they message me again I know not to even bother
